I am taking the side , that society can't survive where the rules,"Thou Shall not," are overwhelmed by ," If it feels good, and right to you, open permissiveness, Your free to do it.
"Sir Arnold Toynbee says . . . In the nineteen forties Toynbee studied civilizations and came to the following conclusions: Based on his study of twenty-one civilizations Toynbee found that societies in disintegration suffer a kind of "schism of the soul." They are seldom simply overrun by some other civilization. Rather, they commit a sort of cultural suicide. Disintegrating societies have several characteristics. They fall into a sense of abandon People begin to yield to their impulses"especially in the sexual area. They also succumb to truancy that is escapism seeking to avoid their problems by retreating into their own worlds of distraction and entertainment. There is a sense of drift as they realize that they have no control over their lives. Consciousness is adrift, unable to anchor itself to any universal ground of justice, truth on which the ideals of modernity have been founded in the past. " What are the visable signs of our present day disregard for Rules of conduct and signs of a decadent society.
"....Sexual behavior? As late as 1960, sleeping with one's boyfriend was still a lower-class thing to do. Except in a few sophisticated circles, a woman of the elites did it furtively, and usually with the person she expected to marry. Behavior that is now considered absolutely normal was considered sluttish in 1960."
"...thug code: Take what you want, respond violently to anyone who antagonizes you, gloat when you win, despise courtesy as weakness, treat women as receptacles, take pride in cheating, deceiving, or exploiting successfully..."
"...Appearance? The hooker look in fashion, tattoos, and body piercing is the obvious evidence, although Toynbee would probably see as much significance in wearing jeans to church. I find the intriguing element here to be the respectfulness extended toward underclass appearance. No one in the public eye calls any kind of dress "cheap" or "sleazy" any more...."
America's new rule, replacing the rule "Thou Shall not," are overwhelmed by ," If it feels good, and right to you, open permissiveness, Your free to do it.... Who are we to judge others, attitude." What are the visable signs of our present day disregard for Rules of conduct and signs of a decadent society, Just look around, the obvious sign are obvious to those who wish to acknowledge them.

The types of different crimes range from those well known ones like manslaughter, murder, theft and robbery to a plethora of regulatory and statutory offenses. Isn't this proof of what I said,"," Thou shall not.."

You are perhaps reading" The Rules of the Road for driver's tests but the rules," Thou shall not...." "Isn't a stable society based on rules that say," Thou shall not.." How long would a society survive where there were no laws, which, in effect, say ,"" Thou shall not.." Isn't a stable society based on rules that say," Thou shall not.." Without laws that state,"" Thou shall not.." America would become a country in which only the strong would prevail and no one's life or property would be safe.

Why are you qouting the bible? I asked you for laws that upheld those voints from the bible, qouting the bible isn't going to help you as I already implied those things were in the bible.

Offences also includes blasphemy, commiting witchcraft, being gay, not being virgin on the day of your wedding (i you are a woman of course).

Claiming the law is based on christianity is incredibly ignorant. Where is the law against blasphemy? Where is the law that says you can't work on Sunday. Where does it claim thought crime exists? There are very few states where adultery is illegal.

You replied,"Claiming the viewpoint is "If it feels good who are we to judge" is kind of a strawman.
( It's more trying to maximize overall happiness.")
Lookingattheissues response to Ninjahammer
Has living by the rule," If it feels good,or right, to a individual , brought happiness. If it has, why are there so many shooting and murders committed, Why are there so many single mothers and single fathers instead of Husbands and wifes, "If it feels good who are we to judge..." is the right attitude promoting happiness, why do so many people go to their work place and murder their fellow workers in todays world. If living by the rules,"If it feels good who are we to judge,"the right philosophy for happiness, why is the countries citizens so indifferent to their neighbors and their fellow citizens in general, with everyone llooking out for themselves and good luck to the other fellow. It would seem apparent that the new way of thinking , in effect has turned one of the Ten Commendments around to the modern interpretation, " Do others before they do you," Not as written in the Bible, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"This "If it feels good or right to you, do it," hasn't brought happiness, only regret and misery to the world we live in today.

Posted by vi_spex Posted..."one can write a law that says it is illegal to not kill infants at birth..A dictator could place such a edict before the public but America has always been a Republic in which up to the present time, our government has been ran as a republic with a division of powers to insure that such a action never took place. Ben Franklin was once asked "....... what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, "A republic, if you can keep it."

"I think with you, that nothing is of more importance for the public weal, than to form and train up youth in wisdom and virtue. Wise and good men are in my opinion, the strength of the state; more so than riches or arms." (Benjamin Franklin, Letter to Samuel Johnson, August 23, 1750.)

LookingATTHEISSUES REPLY TO vi_spex vi's post ," You posted," doing heroin feels good to a junkie, you freely hand him the needle and watch i see..."
There was a time in America that the use of "heroin," and other drugs was done by a small segment of the citizenery because those who used heroin, cocaine and other drugs were looked down upon as either the habit of the lower class or the very wealthy, the use of drugs was something that the average citizenry just didn't do. The Laws of the country and the citizens themselves said, in effect,"," Thou shall not.." Is society better or worse off with a society that now says by its actions that," If it feels good, do it," who are we to judge.." "Isn't a stable society based on rules that say," Thou shall not.."
