I thank my opponent for starting this debate.

I negate.

Resolved: It is justified to kill citizens with AIDS.

In order to clarify, I offer the following definitions, per Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

Justified: To prove or show to be just, right, or reasonable.
Kill: To deprive the life; cause the death of
AIDS: Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome

I would like to present the following observation:

The resolution states that it is justified "to kill" citizen with AIDS. Because it specifies "to", this means that specific action is being taken in order to derive this result. This action is against what would naturally occur; otherwise action would not be taken. Therefore, affirming means that it is justified to end one's life prematurely and unnaturally.

My value for the round shall be justice, which can be defined as "giving each their due." This is the appropriate value for the round because, by definition, to prove that something is or is not justified, one must prove that such a thing is or is not just. The state of being just is essentially the state in which justice is being achieved; thus, we must, by the wording of the resolution, determine which side best achieves justice. My criterion for the round will be protecting rights. A "right" is essentially something that one is innately entitled to; it is one's due. Therefore, in order to give each their due, and thus uphold justice, it is necessary to protect people's rights.

My sole contention for the round is that killing anyone, with or without AIDS, is never justifiable.

To kill someone means to remove their most valuable right—their right to life. Because the right to life is so valuable, each person is entitled to apply it in whatever form they choose. Simply because one has a disease that will eventually kill them does not mean that they should be killed right away, because it is their right to live for as long as they choose to. Killing will always violate people's rights, and thus cannot ever promote justice, and therefore can never be justifiable.

Thank you and I look forward to my opponent's response.
