As some of you may not no, the Parliament are thinking about/going to charge a 9000 fee for universities, as opposed to about 3000. I shall convert that if you wish:
10 045 €
14 723 $

Now my opinion on this, is that this is a bad idea. For 9000 is a large some of money, which alot of students will not be able to pay. Which would decrease the amount of people with a job in the United Kingdom. Which would, of course, mean that there would be few dentists and other things.

I await my opponents argument.

My opponent's main point is that the increase in university fee is a bad idea, because this would discourage students from enrolling, which in turn increases unemployment and hurts the service sector. However, my opponent is contradicting the resolution, meaning that he should be saying that an increase in fee is a GOOD thing, while he instead says it is BAD. Thusly, you can turn his entire case, as this all works on the side of the affirmative. Since my opponent has no other arguments, this is an automatic win for the aff.

The number listed is significantly less than tuition in, say, California.

This resolution is cowardly, Dagolas. You want to argue that education should be increased but are too afraid to carry the burden of proof.

You should be Pro Dagalos. You think fees are too high right? But you've taken the Con position which means you are arguing against the statement that makes up the resolution.

You might want to edit the debate and change either the wording of the resolution or your position.

Personally I'm in favour of high fees for the rich, minimal fees for most and full subsidies and grants for those from the poorest families.

Traditionally, university education was the preserve of a privileged few in the UK but, thanks to grants and state funding, they have been increasingly open to young people from families with modest incomes.

Now the Tories and their quisling Lib Dem lapdogs are trying to reverse that trend so only students from wealthy family backgrounds can afford to access university education.

10 045 €
14 723 $

This is already only about 2/3rds of what most people in the US pay for college...

Reasons for voting decision: Pro was right that Con failed to understand his position as Con in relation to the resolution. As Con to a resolution beginning with "It is not a good idea...", Con was arguing that it was a good idea to increase university fees. Arguments to Pro for pointing this out. Pro also gets the point for S/G since Con's relatively short case was riddled with spelling errors.
