I want to thank my opponent for accepting this debate.

The debate is "It's not worth having children"

So, let's take a look at the issue.

If you have children at a young age, before you get a chance to go to college and begin a career, you will end up being on welfare your entire life in order to pay for the children. That's not worth it.

It costs $241,080 to raise a child and that cost will only go up.
http://money.cnn.com...

Now, even if you did go to college and have a career, having just one child will set you back a quarter of a million dollars!
With that same money, you can have a house paid off, or invest it for retirement.

Paying that kind of money will get you nothing back in return. When the child turns 18 and moves out, you'll have nothing to show for it.

When you get old, the child you took care of and raised, will just throw you in an old folks home and forget about you. All they will care about is what they will inherit from you after you die.

All the hard work and money you put into a child is a waste.

Another problem with having a child is that it puts you as risk. All it takes is one mistake for you to be charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Just one second of looking away or not paying attention and the child could get hurt or killed, which makes you the one responsible for what happened.

Not only that, you are responsible for anything you child does! If the child breaks a window, YOU pay for it! If a child steals your car and crashes it, YOU pay for the damage.

You can't even discipline a child anymore. That's child abuse! If a child wants to get their way, all they need to do is dial 911 and claim you are a pedophile. Boom...YOU go to jail and the kid gets what they want.

So, to sum up...having a kid will cost you at least a quarter of a million, plus all your time for 18 years, plus put you at risk for jail time and/or the cost of the damages caused by the child. Then when it comes time when you need help from the child, they will just throw you away like a piece of trash.

Having a child is soooooooooooooo not worth it!

True, true... but there is one thing that redeems reproduction... In order for us humans to evolve, we are required by the laws of nature to knock each other up and get preggerz so we can continue the human race's existence. Unless, like, we gave birth to robots that ruin the woman's "anatomy" forever during birth.

And so what if they cause grief? I'm sure there's plenty of masochistic parents out there. Why else would they have children in the first place other than to continue our existence? They enjoy the grief.

So, in the end, it's a beautiful cycle in the grand scheme of things. We get to experience the pleasure of knocking each other up, the pleasure of getting yelled at for 18 years, and the pleasure of watching it all happen to them.

On to my opponent!

There are over 8 billion people on the planet. Even if 2/3 of them don't have kids, the human race will not die out.
We are actually putting the human race at risk by overpopulating the planet.

" I'm sure there's plenty of masochistic parents out there. Why else would they have children in the first place other than to continue our existence?"

I'd say most people who have kids, so so because they want to appear "normal".

Either that, or that have a big ego.

I doubt anybody enjoys the grief, the stress, the loss of sleep, the constant pressure and the financial burden of being a parent.

We can experience the pleasure of "knocking each other up" without having to have children. There is such a thing as birth control.

Seriously...kids are not worth it!

All my opponent's arguments can be refuted by the irrefutable scientifical fact that parents and humans in general enjoy pain and suffering:

http://en.m.wikipedia.org...

And if one enjoys pain, where's the fun in not getting pregnant and having miserable kids and overpopulating the world? After all, the best part is that you get to watch it all happen to your masochistic kids one day. They're happy because they're suffering, you're happy because they're suffering, therefore, children bring happiness.

Peace out.

@ BEASTxKNIGHTx12 5 First of all, you can't prove there is a god. Second of all, there's only a certain amount of land that can be used to grow food. There's a limit.

God had put all the supplies we need so I think he put enough forever how big we get.

Actually scientist discovered that if you put all the people in the world in LA. They would still have enough room to walk around. So we are not overpopulating. Just saying!!!

@derplington Yes, I did...and the resources it would take to sustain such a city would take up more than the rest of the planet!

Nonprophet, did you know that the entire worlds population could fit in a city as dense as New York filling the state of Rhode island.

"I suppose the emotinal sataisfaction a parent may get from seeing their child grow and flourish might make it all worth it."

Plant a tree and watch that grow. It's a lot cheaper.

250,000? Sheesh! Money-wise I think you're right that the little blighters are over-priced but then I suppose the emotinal sataisfaction a parent may get from seeing their child grow and flourish might make it all worth it. Who knows? There's also the enviornmental aspect to consider too. Is it really worth creating another consumer when the planet's resources are already feeling the strain due to our profligate life-styles for the selfish purpose of mere self-replication? Christ give other speices a chance at some self-replication for once you anthropocentric meat-bags.
