Round 1 is to accept this debate. I will be arguing that Jodi should get the Death penalty during the Retrial on July 18th, while my opponent will argue that she should be sentenced to life in prison.

I thank my opponent for accepting this debate.

Now Jodi Arias has been on trial now for over 4 years, and was just determined to get a re-trial in court on July 18th concerning her penalty. The jury has spent 5 long months deciding whether or not to put her behind bars, or end her life. As of the other day, it seems their decision still hasn’t been made, and that they are going to once again, put it up for re-trial with a brand new Jury.

So here is my Case on why Jodi Deserves death.

Argument 1: Punishment matches the crime.

The crime that Jodi committed was utterly horrible. The way she murdered Travis was sick and disgusting. Maybe by giving her the death penalty, we wouldn’t be doing it exactly that sickening, but we would be giving her a punishment that matches her crime. Travis died innocent, and now she should die guilty in return for what she did to Travis.

Argument 2: Jail-time for Jodi is a waste of money.

Why spend tax money for Jodi to live in a warm Jail Cell with food, and water? Granted we will already be paying tax money for this sort of thing, but she is just adding to the problem. The cost for feeding her, and keeping her sitting alive in a jail cell for the rest of her life exceeds the cost of simply ending her life. Jodi Arias clearly doesn’t deserve the right to life after her actions: Killing, Lying, Manipulation. Jodi needs to go, and keeping her alive is redundant.

Argument 3: Jodi wants to die.

Jodi stated in a press interview, that “Death is the ultimate freedom.” She publicly stated that she wants death. I personally think this is another lie. Egotistical psychotic’s who possess such a level of narcissism, don’t want to die. She probably said it to invoke a reaction out of the viewers “Oh she wants death? Well let’s not give her what she wants!” Effectively using reverse psychology to prevent her from dying. However, this is besides the point. She stated that death is what she wants. There is no moral wall in taking her life, in fact it is the more moral thing to do.

Argument 4: Jail-time isn’t really a punishment.

The main opposition to her death penalty is that people want to punish her for her actions. Let me explain why jail-time isn’t really a punishment. In jail, really all you are getting is seclusion from the world, and some really grungy roommates. Boredom maybe, but even that can be overcome in time after she gets a routine, and finds things to keep herself entertained. A soldier in the military can freely put himself into a more pitiful environment that that of a prison. Prison is meant as a way of keeping criminals off the streets for a certain amount of time, until they can be either released on good behavior, or for fulfilling their sentences. However these crimes they committed usually aren’t as heavy as that of murder, meaning they aren’t as likely to repeat the crime, or actually hurt anyone. If Jodi get’s a life in prison sentence, then we aren’t just keeping her off the streets. We’re paying money to keep a person alive so they can just sit and rot in a jail cell for so many years. Wouldn’t it be easier just to kill her, saving both money, stress, and time? There are many people who will purposely attempt to get themselves into prison, just for hospitality purposes alone. Jodi will never have to worry about survival, not being able to feed or take care of herself, again. She is going to get that all for free. She will always have shelter, and a roof above her head. She will never really be punished to the extent that she deserves from justice.

It is for these reasons why I feel Jodi Arias deserves the death penalty. Thankyou.
