In Roman, Greek, and Eastern societies, citizens by the time they were 15-18 they knew hunt, cook, skin animals, make fire, defend themselves, fight in war, etc. The generations of today in the west, particularly in America, are more sheltered now than ever before. We have lost the distinction between teen and adult. The result is many people act like children much longer and then at 18 or 21 are expected to just be like adults. Governments and people are so very illogical about these things. The law makes no distinction in civil liberties or rights of any kind to be different between a 5 year old and a 15 or 17 year old, in almost all cases.
We need massive education reform. Promote the ideology that young people are responsible for their actions at a younger age. AND THEY ARE. We've got 12 yr olds convicted for murder. And so perhaps we should use other countries as examples, and Push drinking/smoking at 18, voting at 16, Age of consent 15-16. (HS) Pre work programs in every school.
Edit: well the idea is that even if you didn't change those laws, you should still push people to have more responsibility and be productive in society. Not saying you should have 12 year olds working 30 hour weeks but maybe some kind of better opportunity to work at a younger age? Less telling them their are helpless children until 18. That is absurd. Instead of going to school for 6 years off and on and not working at all? Alot of college people doing that. Also if you did make those law changes it would make it less "cool" to do things because they aren't illegal. Also the amount of people made sex offenders for life just for sending a picture to someone they went to school with or for just having a picture of themselves on their phone before their 18 that is sexual is absurd. And as a counter make an exceptions law where parents can get a restraining order on someone else for sexual conduct with their teen, so they still have control if they disapprove. Finally, NO MORE COMMON CORE
