Kickers are often the most disrispected, for not being big and physical. A kicker is either a hero or a goat. Kickers now a days are money, as the NFL average this year was over 80% made kicks. Kickers put points on the board consistently. Ofter the kicker is the "unsung hero"
The kicker is way over payed for what he does. If all you have to do is train yourself to kick the ball through a field goal and then wait for your next time to kick the ball, you don't need to be recognized like a hero. The kicker isn't getting hit hard like a QB or a lineman. QB are the "heroes" of the game because, come on, they are the number one target at the beginning of a play. I'm very sure they can teach one of the other players to ALSO be the kicker.
You say all a kicker has to do is kick a ball. Well doesnt a quarterback just have to throw? And a wide Reciever just have to catch? A kicker is the moster underpaid player on the field, yet has to be the most clutch. The art of kicking is much harder than one would think as well as there is many aspects that must be done to have a solid kick. You say a QB is being presured from the start, well isnt a kicker aswell? As soon as the ball is snapped 11 guys are running at hime for the block. Kickers must have the strongest mental game in the leage to make it through.
I understand what you are saying, but the kicker is not threatened by being tackled. The kicker starts everything, while the QB has to make split second decisions before he is sacked. Like in high school football, they can have someone be the kicker as well as something else. I do not think that the kicker is being under appreciated by any means, he gets enough appreciation as his job deserves, if not more.
