First round is for acceptance only.

With the news of many police officers overstepping their boundaries coming to light in recent month, I believe that Law Enforcement officials should be trained more thoroughly to resist direct, lethal engagement with a suspect. This includes a type of mental training that eliminates the somewhat common paranoid, trigger-happy ideology some officers have. My argument is also to provide non-lethal, first instinct methods such a rubber bullets, tasers, and pepper spray to all officers.

Round 2, we shall state our opening arguments while the remaining rounds will be for rebuttals.
Let's keep it civil.
Thank you for accepting.

Awww. Well I was going to argue that my opponent has the burden to prove that the methods he proposes are actually "non-lethal." Merriam-Webster's defines "non-lethal" as "incapable of causing death." The literature talks about tasers, rubber bullets, and pepper spray as "less-lethal" weapons because *all* of them have been known to kill people. [1] Tasers kill people with heart problems. Rubber bullets can kill people if they hit them in the wrong spot with too much force. Pepper spray can kill people with pre-existing lung problems. So none of the methods my opponent proposes are actually non-lethal.

Counterplan: Law enforcement should focus more on *less* lethal weapons.

Also, my opponent has the BOP to show the status quo does not have enough training and use of the methods he proposes. Many police departments already use tasers and pepper spray.
