In this debate I will argue that a mandatory secondary language education will do more benefit than harm.

The first round is for acceptance

The national context is the US/Canada, but Europe and anglosphere nations may be referenced

Alright, being Canadian we are made to learn French (Or English if you live in a French area) and as a result of this, Je peux parler francais mediocre.

Because of this, i can speak and understand some French with other French people, which make up around 1/3rd of my country's population. Let's say someone lives in the U.S where they take mandatory Spanish, they can communicate to some degree with 399 million people, many of whom live in the U.S or incredibly close to the U.S.

Even in Countries which only have one official language, there are most likely neighboring countries nearby which speak a different language than said country, which also helps make a 2nd language practical.

And if you live in a country where English isn't the official language and it's not your native tongue it's incredibly important to learn as it is the current lingua franca of the majority of the world.

Now lets get into some of the psychological benefits of learning a 2nd language

- It has been proven to help delay the effects of Alzheimer and dementia by years

- Bi-lingual individuals have been proven to be smarter, get better jobs and better wages

So being bi-lingual makes you smarter, richer, and less likely to have mental health problems later on in life.

it seems pretty obvious, there are no disadvantages to mandatory 2nd language education as being bi-lingual, especially from a young age has amazing effects

Hey! A bit new here... So I clicked on this because it seemed interesting, but admittedly I have no idea what I'm doing. Could you explain what you mean by 'The first round is for acceptance'?
