I'm Pro-Leaf and a member of the American Marijuana Party (AMP). Therefore, a strong supporter of legalizing marijuana for recreational and medicinal uses.
    • We seek to remove all penalties for adults 18 and over who choose to consume cannabis in aresponsible manner.
    • We demand an end to the war on productive and otherwise law abiding citizens by the powers that be who claim to protect us.
    • We demand the right to use any medication our healthcare providers and we deem fit without government interference.
    • We demand the release of all people imprisoned on marijuana charges and that their criminal records be expunged.
    • We demand that all property seized in marijuana raids be returned to the rightful owners at once.
    • We demand that our law enforcement officers make more efficient use of our tax dollars and use the resources they have at their disposal to go after violent criminals and crimes that actually have victims.
    • We demand the right to grow marijuana for personal consumption, just as alcohol can be brewed at home legally so long as it is not sold untaxed.
    • We demand that you stop treating us like second class citizens for consuming something that is less dangerous than alcohol and tobacco, both of which are legal and cause numerous deaths each year.Cannabis has never been reported to have caused one.
Now that you know where I'm coming from, a few rules, if you will.
    • R1- Acceptance & clarification.
    • R2- Opening arguments.
    • R3-Rebuttals and conclusions.
I also ask that no religion be used for grounds of argument.

I thank my opponent in advance for accepting my challenge. Good luck.

I am taking the position that marijuana should not be legalized on the grounds that marijuana is an extremely addictive drug, it causes teen dependency, it is a drug that contains hundreds of chemicals many of which are carcinogens, it has not directly killed anyone however it does play a role in some deaths, and on the grounds that marijuana is too easy to access to minors for it to be legalized.

1) Addictive, both to adults and especially to teenagers
Marijuana is one of the most addictive illegal drugs out there, it affects one in ten recreational users but teenagers on the other hand are much more vulnerable to becoming dependent on marijuana than adults. Marijuana dependency affects more teenagers than all other drug dependencies combined, and the number of teenagers in rehab for marijuana dependency is larger than any other drug group and costs taxpayers millions

If Marijuana was legalized, then access to the drug for teenagers would mushroom, along with the number of cases of teenage dependency and addictions to the drug.

2) Chemicals
Marijuana is known for having chemicals that alter the mind and create a euphoria for the smoker, however marijuana also contains chemicals that slows reaction time, alters how the brain process information, degrades decision making, etc. Marijuana also contains carcinogens that can cause cancer and severe lung damage over long periods of time. Legalizing marijuana.

http://www.jstor.org...
http://archpsyc.ama-assn.org...

Legalizing Marijuana would allow millions of people to unwillingly expose themselves to very harmful drugs that causes numerous health complications such as lung cancer in the far future while in the short term future decision making skills and mental healthiness deteriorate.

3) Lethal nature of Marijuana
Every supporter of Marijuana legalization will hide behind the weak argument that marijuana doesnt kill. Those people are only looking at the fact that it is impossible to overdose on Marijuana, however they completely ignore how Marijuana can cause many types of cancers since many chemicals within marijuana are carcinogenic. Apart from causing death by cancer, marijuana's alteration and degradation of brain functionality plays a role in other common accidents, mostly car accidents where decreased reactionary times to events going on on the roads end in fatalities. On the other hand, the current drug trade involving marijuana causes dozens of deaths and has even triggered small scale civil wars in certain countries (Columbia and Mexico). Marijuana does kill people, either by the long term health damage it triggers or through gang violence.

4) Saturation of the market.
People who support the Profusion Of Toxic, Heavy Euphoria Agents + Drugs....... or "P.O.T.H.E.A.D.'s" for short........... Dont realize that if euphoria agents and drugs such as marijuana are legalized then teenagers and those not old enough to legally smoke the drug would have far greater access to smoking the drug either recreationally or heavily are now much more at risk for developing either a dependency on the drug or develop health complications caused by marijuana chemicals, carcinogens, and mind-altering agents within marijuana.

Legalizing marijuana is a bad idea if you look at it through the health complications it would unleash on this massive nation of 350 million people. Marijuana already causes health complications in millions of people while the drug is illegal, making it legal would expose many more people to the health complications brought about by marijuana now that it would be far more accessible to millions of people who may or may not be of legal age...

Reasons for voting decision: Pro forfeited, apparently intimidated by the huge picture of Donkey Kong who declared that it is on. Disappointing, because my stance on this is one I could possibly be argued out of.
