We have been told throughout our lives that drugs are harmful. I believe that restricting drugs are what makes them so dangerous, this is because of the fact that people are more inclined to harm others to make money off of drugs. Evidence given by Ashley Fantz of CNN writes, "According to figures released on January 11 by the Mexican government, 12,903 people were killed in drug related violence in the first nine months of 2011." Some supporters of drug legalization suggest that legalizing drugs will reduce crime rate. This in fact supports my evidence that drug cartels run on illegal drug money. If the government controlled drug vending it would destroy the drug cartel profit dropping crime rates dramatically. While it may be true that drugs can be harmful when using them improperly, it's important to remember that drugs are used every day to save lives.
All of our lives we've been told that drugs are bad for you. I believe that legalizing drugs is a bad idea because they would be even more dangerous. A lot of drugs are addictive and if you are addictive you will be taking them more often then you should even though you shouldn't be doing them. If you are addicted to them you might overdose and die. Also some can kill you if you take them regularly. If they legalize drugs they would be taken more because it is legal and its more likely to take them regularly and those things might happen.
While it may be true that addiction can be harmful, it's important to remember that our bodies belong to ourselves and that we have the right to treat them the way we want, as long as it is not hurting anybody else. The fact that drugs are illegal is a way of saying that you are not aloud to feel a certain way.
It is true that drugs can cause violence because of drug dealing, but if they do legalize drugs, drug dealing still might be illegal and there will still be violence over it. They might make some drugs legal but some might be illegal and people might still deal those.
