OPENING STATEMENT

The United States is not the greatest anymore due to many factors. The one factor I am focusing on in this round is education. Education is an essential part of a civilization. Everyone knows this to be true. However, The United States ranks 14th in that category. (https://rankingamerica.wordpress.com...) True, the United States is within the top 20 but that isn't always a good thing. There are still people who still think that the Earth is flat. In fact, 1 in 4 Americans do according to a survey from the National Science Foundation (http://www.npr.org...). Furthermore, the United states is ranked 2nd in ignorance (https://rankingamerica.wordpress.com...). Ignorance being the lack of knowledge, obviously. With rankings like that, it's hard to ignore the fact that this country isn't the greatest.

We once aspired to be educated. I look around and I don't see that aspiration anymore. It's gone, blown away in a wind long gone. We used to build machines that could go to the Moon. WE walked on that Moon. Nobody seems to have that kind of aspiration. We used to be the leader in the world's economy. We aren't that anymore. All of those things, they were made possible by an education nation. I don't see that same nation anymore.

To start off the argument, I am going to debunk both of your so called 'facts' that you found off of a blog. To start with, your last argument about ignorance is taken completely out of context based on your definition of Ignorance. With you definition, it makes it seem like American people are stupid, however, the blog (so who even knows if it is accurate to begin with) clearly states that what was conducted is they asked a group of people the amounts of "teen pregnancy, unemployment rates, and voting patterns" so for you to take Americans scoring low in these three statistics, and then converging all of us to be stupid, is a very slippery slope. All you did, was look at a chart, without looking at the facts, and then with a lack of knowledge, making a claim.

In your argument that says and I quote "There are still people who still think that the Earth is flat. In fact, 1 in 4 Americans do according to a survey from the National Science Foundation (http://www.npr.org......)." The article has NOTHING to do with the Earth being flat, nevertheless it is about the sun revolving around the Earth, I only point this out to point out that you, my opponent, lack the competence to read an article, and should therefore not be considered for an intellectual debate. Now also this article only represents 2200 people of the Millions of people in America, also most of these people had a concentrated, similar background, and therefore is unfair to take a survey from a very similar group. This would be similar to going to a gun convention, and taking a poll on whether or not gun control should be stricter.

Finally, your argument about Education being 14th in the world, is a measurement of the people, NOT the country. The American education system is ranked 2nd in the world, and 14th for overall education because PEOPLE do not want to be educated, not because our government is doing a bad job. Americans have more basic education and literacy than all but ONE country in the world, which is pretty dang good.

Now why is America the best country in the world?

1. Freedom, do you think you could type this up in Japan? Iraq? Pakistan? No, no, and no. America has always been since 1776 the most free country in the world. Our constitution allows you to own guns, and for the most part, unregulated. Our constitution allows you to SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT! Where else, could you say whatever you want against the government.

2. We treat our poor better than any other country in the World, we have numerous charities, and we give out more government money to the poor than any other country in the world, many times at our own cost. Therefore making us one of the most charitable countries in the world.

3. We are the Alpha, who did Paris reach out to when they were attacked by the Islamic State? Who has never lost a war? Who landed the first man on the moon? Who ended WW2? Who has gone into the middle east with no inward reward? Who knocked off Nazi Germany? Who told the soviets to stuff it during the cold war? What country has the most world-wide respect? If you don't know the simple answer to these, well.. go get a history book.

4. Cost of living. America does NOT have the lowest cost of living in the world. Go to a third world country, and that's where you will find the lowest cost of living. However, for the first world countries, Americas tax/cost of living ratio is the best in the world. According to Forbes.com.

5. We span a vast area of land allowing for many different climates. Therefore allowing our citizens even more diversity in what they choose to do with their lives, and what type of weather they would like to live in, and experience.

6. We have more gold medals than any other country does in the Olympics.

7. We are more secure than any other country. When was the last time the US was invaded? Oh wait, the only time America was attacked we bombed the heck out of the cowards who committed the attack. (Pearl Harbor). The only real security threat we deal with is the degenerates known as the Islamic State. Who we are currently battling with, yet with the US vast freedoms, it can be hard to control such radicals.

8. We also have two of the biggest technological companies, in the world. Microsoft, and Apple. No other country can boast that.

Finally, I ask, since you say that the USA is no longer the best country in the world, who would you suggest is? Please feel free to back up with either common knowledge, or credible facts.
