Liberal does not necessarily equal Democrat, nor does conservative necessarily Republican.

Who do you think is running literally every single business which supplies you with goods and services? You think they're a Liberal? Hahahaha!
Debate Round No. 1

It was implied that we were talking about governmental policies, so if you would still like to continue on this subject, please stay in the debate.

Liberal government has given you many things, like an end to slavery, civil rights, public education, clean air, clean water, clean and safe food, roads, the GI Bill, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, consumer protections, labor laws, women's rights, the Great Society, the New Deal, the Social Safety net , The Brady Bill, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and much, much more.

And What did Conservative Government Do?

Opposed each and every one of these

If it was implied then I apologize for being too dumb to know that. I thought economic contributions matter to America but I could be mistaken.

Now let's get to the nitty gritty stuff Pro has displayed to us:

He argues that the "Liberal" government ended slavery... The party that legislated this was the party we called before and after the Republican Party who temporarily named themselves the National Union Party [] as a publicity stunt to gain votes from unionists. Now, Pro states in Round 1 that Republican is not necessarily conservative and vice versa for Democrats but failed to give a single shred of evidence that the Republican Party under its alias was even remotely "Liberal"in any policy other than the abolition of slavery. If anything all that Pro has proven is that conservatives are far more open to the concepts of Liberalism than the narrow minded Liberals are to the policies of Conservatism. I think we can agree that a party showing open-mindedness to ideas that contradict many of their other values is not a hypocrite but rather an adapting party who not only change their name and ideology based on circumstance but always seek what is best for the nation rather than best for their beliefs to be thrust upon those who oppose them like many Liberals love to do to homophobes and pro-lifers.

Pro then states that the Liberal government gave us Civil Rights. What Pro is correct on is that the Democratic Party's Lyndon Baines Johnson legislated this [] but, from that very same source, you will find that Johnson was born and bred in Texas no less... Texas... Liberal... Not really, albeit possible. Aside from this matter is the further matter that if Pro states that the Republican Party can be considered Liberal without a shred of evidence then I absolutely entitled to off-handedly claim that the Democrats were conservative. Pro has the full burden of proof in this debate after all.

Following this, Pro states that public education was something that the Liberal government "gave us". Firstly, Pro admits that all Conservative states must have agreed to this legislation. Secondly, it was the centrist Thomas Jefferson who enforced the two-track system of Private Public to settle the matter, it was neither a liberal nor conservative individual who did this, albeit Massachusetts being the guinea pig state for the "beta program".[]

Clean air and water? Seriously? Since when are Green Party "Liberals"? They lean slightly to the Left but that's hardly enough to label them 'Liberals' with certainty; especially if Pro is saying that Democrats can be considered conservative and Republicans Liberal.

Clean and safe food is not due to Liberals at all. How is that to do with Liberalism?

Roads destroy nature and encourage air pollution from cars and increase obesity rates due to lack of cycling and walking being used as legitimate modes of transport. Guess what this takes away; "clean air" and the acid rain resulting from this prevents "clean water" and the toxic drinks being fed to farm animals let alone humans results in not so "clean food and health" Oopsy daisy! Which is it, Pro? Enlighten us.

Medicaid and Social Security created a ton of benefits scroungers, hardly the prime example of great contributions of Liberals. You must first prove this to be positive or even something that is a contribution rather than a temporary solution to the bigger issue of unemployment.#

Consumer protectionism is not a Liberal prerogative; it is a conservative one. The concept of unbreakable contracts between each client and their supplier or goods provider. Liberals would say 'awww let the cutiepies be!', Conservatives say 'lock 'em up whit no food for a week and see how much they will ensure all customers are treated fairly and to the written letter.

I'm not even going to go into how the other Acts are more detrimental than beneficial as Pro has full burden of proof.

However, I would like to remind you of what the Conservatives contribute to society. When you're homeless ON A SUNDAY do you think the welfare office is open? No, you can sleep on a god damn bench for all they care. Who's the one place that would care for you as long as you respected their ways and beliefs? A church. When you're scared and alone who's going to have your corner more, a public defender or that self-made millionaire private attorney who started form the bottom and fought his/her way up the food chain? The American dream itself is a conservative-type one.

1. Hitler was a dictator.
2. Radicals want change. I think they were happy with the power they had.
3. understood.
4. Temporarily raised them out of poverty. Improving? We are in a recession and owe 18 trillion dollars while aprox a little less the 10% of people stay home receiving free money making them lazy and adding on to the debt while another percentage of people get paid to do gov jobs that are virtually useless just because they can't find jobs anywhere else while Obama and other democratic liberals continue to hand off money in stimulus packages that solve nothing.
5. That would help a lot if people could get any savings instead of just being thousands of dollars in debt.
6. "gave" like liberals owned the right to vote and decided to be nice enough to let other people try it out?
7. Not big on politics and don't know what that is but it sounds like another way to spend a lot of money.
8. No argument. You got one.
9. more ways to spend money.
10. money just being wasted.
11. just going deeper and deeper into debt.
12. I know it's really bad. we should ask them to stop creating more debt.
13. I would love to hear some specifics.
14. They definitely know how to do things. I just want them to stop.

Hitler was a reactionary conservative who lied about being Socialist.
Stalin and Mao weren't liberals, they were radicals.
When we speak of liberals and conservatives, we don't mean radicals.
While they may have created a tax increase, the fact is these programs raised millions of people out of poverty, creating more consumers and thus improving the economy altogether, increasing wages.
Liberals created federal safeguards to protect people from losing all their savings.
Liberals gave women and African Americans the right to vote.
Liberals improved veterans care with the GI Bill
Liberals preserved the Union during the Civil War.
Liberals created Social Security and Medicare, protecting millions of seniors.
Liberals created the Family and Medical Leave Act
Liberals created Medicaid.
And so much more...
Liberal policies fixed the economy during a depression.
Liberals win

If you had actually read what he stated this has nothing to do with democrats or republicans. Abe Lincoln was a liberal as well as many of the republicans while the democrats ideology reflected what is now conservative.

I know this is not a 100% legitimate source but it doesn't mean it is not true.

To be fair, The Republican Party, founded in 1854 by former members of the Whig party. The Whig Party, which was formed in 1834 to oppose the "tyranny" of President Andrew Jackson, had shown itself incapable of coping with the national crisis over slavery. However the Republican party was formed by former members to appose the spread of slavery, in Wisconsin on March 20, 1854, is generally remembered as the founding meeting of the Republican Party.

In fact president Andrew Jackson was a member of the democratic party, who at the time of slavery and indeed pro on slavery. Not many people seam to realize that, the republican party was formed to stop slavery.

Republicans strongly believe that free markets and individual achievement, they advocate in favor of laissez-faire economics, fiscal conservatism, and the elimination of government run welfare programs in favor of private sector nonprofits and encouraging personal responsibility.
Where as Democrats(Liberals) are more for government control.

There is a fun fact about a scale I found,
The Republican party is the closest to Anarchy, where Democratic party is close to Communism, where Liberals are even closer to Communism.

I am sorry for my spelling not used to mac keyboards spacing, I just hoped I helped clear up some historical errors.

"It is matter of statistics, not debate...."
Correct. Easily the liberals have contributed more to America than conservatives. But what usually isn't thought about is that contribution is not necessarily a good thing. Hitler contributed millions of dead people. Point proven. Now whether liberals are more beneficial to America than conservatives is another debate. Most of the things Pro mentioned as liberal contributions have also all contributed a significant raise in taxes when put together. Is that a good thing?

"Who do you think is running literally every single business which supplies you with goods and services? You think they're a Liberal? Hahahaha!" - This liberal owns a business. I know many-many more.
