If I'm not mistaken, libertarians want as little government as possible, the lowest taxes possible, and the most individual rights possible. Libertarians trust the free market to get things done. Here's why that's a terrible idea:

We cannot trust the free market to run the show. The free market inevitably leaves some people behind. Social Darwinism applies here: Survival of the Fittest. Competition inevitably means someone will be the loser. Libertarians say it is not right to take money away from those who are more successful, but is it right to leave the poor, the less fortunate, those who have missed opportunities in the cold? Is it right to leave the unluckiest in the cold? The free market will never have an impetus to help the poor, because it is not in the interests of business. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the last time libertarians had control of the government was during the 20s, and that didn't turn out so well. You know, the whole Great Depression and all. Oops.

We need government, as much as Ron Paul hotheads might disagree. We need the FDA. It keeps our food safe to eat. We need the EPA. It keeps our environment nice, clean, and liveable. We need the IRS. It sort of manages our government and keeps it running. We need the FCC. It stops pornography and offensive content from getting on a television that a child could turn on. Yes, reform of these institutions is needed, but we should not get rid of them. Society cannot moderate itself.

I have more arguments, but I will let my eventual opponent try to debunk my arguments before bringing more to the table

Unfortunately winning debates I am not technically a participant of doesn't show up in my totals :D

Of course in essence libertarianism is not a philosophy, it is a political position and as such a mere part and not a whole of a philosophy :D.

"I'm not a libertarian at all, but I am a Conservative and a capitalist

right now congress is passing a $150 billion plan to boost our economy, i hope it passes
"

You call yourself a capitalist? that 150 billion plan, last I checked, essentially consists of bailing out those who have made bad decisions in getting or giving loans. The only stimulus package we need is the government getting the f out :D

"
yeah, the biggest reason is because of the free economy, the adjustable mortgages, the government should've stopped it when it began

but the other issue is the government lowering intrest rates, it devalues the dollar and increases inflation, but its to stop a recession, but its been going on for years now, shure, recession is bad, but the free economy needs a chance to work for once, soon, this won't work and they'll be more to worry about than a recession, does anybody recall 1929?
"

Now you're just contradicting yourself. :D

let's see here, a capitalist eh?
You favor welfare. You favor social security, you favor "social programs," you favor national health care, you favor medicaid and medicare, you favor minimum wage, you favor campaign finance reform, and this on top of your stimulus package. You can have the label "conservative," of the old world variety or theocrat variety, but don't you dare call yourself a capitalist. You are not in the slightest.

Well I started the first debate but the person I was debating thought I was talking about "Liberal" not "Libertarian".

Ah, just like to mention that it annoys me when people start two debates with the exact same wording.

Atleast wait for the other debate to be done, and learn from your mistakes, eh? Then you are more likely to win the next time you debate the certain Resolution. Make it on a different topic or something.
