This debate will challenge my opponent's ability to think abstractly and problem solve. Upon successful completion of the first round my second round puzzle will go into effect and if it is successfully completed then you will have won this debate.

========
Guidelines
========

1.Forfeiting any round will result in a disqualification.

2.Only a successful completion of the second puzzle will result in a victory.

3.The correct answer to the first puzzle will provide the necessary clue to solve the second puzzle.

4.The clue to round number 2 will be found in analyzing the first rounds answer.

5.I will give two hints, of my choosing, in my round 2 response that will help decipher the second puzzle if the first puzzle has been deciphered correctly. I may include more hints but you are guaranteed to get at least two.

6.The only thing you have to write is the correct solution of the puzzle for any given round.

7.I promise that the second coded puzzle won't be ridiculously difficult. A reasonably intelligent person could figure it out.

======
Puzzle 1
======

This message is written in code and must be deciphered.

Congratulations Kleptin, you have successfully completed my first round and will now be introduced to the final cipher. This round will test your ability to reason and think outside of the box.

====
Hints
====

1. Commonly used cipher encryption methods will do you little good here. I may be wrong, and I probably am, but I might be the only person in human history to ever create this specific type of cipher. Its not that hard though; don't let it overwhelm you.

2. The fresh baked apple pie holds the key to your salvation.

================
Understanding the puzzle
================

Don't become confused.

4658 638 3 4356936.
2122 312 1 2422231. = One line of text and

6 = one specific letter
1

There are three lines of text in total.

Puzzle number 2
===========

4658 638 3 4356936.
2122 312 1 2422231.

22 213211 1 1321 1141: 1211 2211122.

Good luck :)

This was a triumph.
I[']m making a note here: huge success.
It[']s hard to overstate my satisfaction.

Thank you to my opponent for making these puzzles. I have won the debate. Let's do this again someday :)

You did it the same way I would have.

There aren't any random letters in the English alphabet that appear alone other than A, and from there the logic would have been pretty straightforward.

In case your interested the lines you deciphered were part of a song from portal called "still alive"- ;D

Haha, I wouldn't have gotten that :P

Here's what I did: I turned each vertical letter pair into an arbitrary letter, making my own cipher out of a cipher.

ABCD EFD F AGCHIJB CI IFKCLM F LNAO BOGO BHMO DHPPODD CAD BFGQ AN NROGDAFAO IS DFACDTFPACNL

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Single letter "A" repeated twice.
F = A

---- -A- A ------- -- -A---- A ---- ---- ---- ------- --- -A-- -- ------A-- -- -A----A-----

BCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
3 letter with "a" in the middle, followed by "a" Must be "was a"

E = W
D = S

---S WAS A ------- -- -A---- A ---- ---- ---- S----SS --S -A-- -- ----S-A-- -- SA--S-A-----

BCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRTUVXYZ
3 S's and 3 of the same letter together. Word must be "success"
H = U
P = C
O = E

---S WAS A ---U--- -- -A---- A ---E -E-E ---E SUCCESS --S -A-- -- --E-S-A-E -- SA--S-AC----

BDFGHIJKLMNOPQRTVXYZ
Last word is obviously "satisfaction"
A = T
C = I
T = F
N = O
L = N

T-IS WAS A T-IU--- I- -A-IN- A NO-E -E-E ---E SUCCESS ITS -A-- TO O-E-STATE -- SATISFACTION

BDGHJKLMPQRVXYZ
"T-IS" has to be "THIS"
B = H

THIS WAS A T-IU--H I- -A-IN- A NO-E HE-E H--E SUCCESS ITS HA-- TO O-E-STATE -- SATISFACTION

BDGJKLMPQRVXYZ
Third to last word must be "overstate"
R = V
G = R

THIS WAS A TRIU--H I- -A-IN- A NO-E HERE H--E SUCCESS ITS HAR- TO OVERSTATE -- SATISFACTION

BDGJKLMPQXYZ
Fourth word is "Triumph"

I = M
J = P

ABCD EFD F AGCHIJB CI IFKCLM F LNAO BOGO BHMO DHPPODD CAD BFGQ AN NROGDAFAO IS DFACDTFPACNL
THIS WAS A TRIUMPH IM MA-IN- A NO-E HERE H--E SUCCESS ITS HAR- TO OVERSTATE M- SATISFACTION

BDGJKLQXYZ

From here it was just logic.

Hmm.. it messed up the pattern. Oh well

Since I probably wont be using the same patterns twice here is what I did in case you're curious.

3.1415926535897932384626433832795… = Mathematical Pi

ABCDEFGHIJKL
314159265358
111211112231

MNOPQRSTUVWX
979323846264
213324222333

Every time a number appeared twice or three times it would get a 2 or a 3 underneath it. For instance J represents the second appearance of the number 3 so it got a 2 underneath it. A is the first appearance of the number 3 so it got a number 1 underneath it and so on. I did this to avoid having letters that were represented by the same number. ;)

I'm embarrassed to say that I could not even figure out the secret to the code. I did something to streamline my attack of the cipher but in doing so, I dispelled any chance of finding a pattern :(

It was a risk I decided to take, but it yielded good results.

What, why did anyone vote for me?

Congratulations Kleptin

Without revealing the secret to the code were you able to figure it out?

Perhaps this would work better in the forums. Anyway, voted CON for obvious reasons.

I've included the answer in both one long sentence and the three parts because I'm not sure which one you wanted. I originally thought that they were 3 different cipher schemes but it turns out they were the same.
