In this arguement pro will argue that Balrogs had wings, while con will argue the opposite. These are the Balrogs of the Lord of the Rings series

Con

I don't really like Lotr that much and have only seen the film once or twice but I doubt mr balrog would have fallen to his death if he had any wings.

I never said that they would be usuable wings, just wings. Perhaps some did, some didn't. Prove to me Master Balrog Baggins didn't.

Doesn't matter. This is a silly debate since there isn't enough information either way. Who cares anyways.

In addition, due to their being Maiar, they could probably choose to have wigs or not. Or, they had a hierarchy in which higher leveled Balrogs had wings, while the 'peasants' did not.

I agree. Balrogs kept changing - as did their size, shape, anatomy in general, really. So, either case could make a good case.

Since Pro confines the argument to LOTR- the question is not falsifiable. If early versions if the Silmarilion were included, then Balrogs riding on Dragons could be included in the question. If early Balrogs had wings, they would not need to ride dragons. However, early Balrogs were also only twice the height of a man and relatively commonplace.

Wikipedia is clear that the question is ambiguous

Whether Balrogs have wings (and if so, whether they can fly) is unclear. This is due partly to Tolkien's changing conception of Balrogs, but mostly to his imprecise but suggestive and possibly figurative description of the Balrog that confronted Gandalf in Moria.[10]

The two key quotations:

His enemy halted again, facing him, and the shadow about it reached out like two vast wings.

" suddenly it drew itself up to a great height, and its wings were spread from wall to wall "

The argument hinges on whether the "wings" are physical wings or simply figurative wings of shadow. Many additional facts are adduced to the argument, but there is not enough firm description in Tolkien's writing to settle the argument definitively.[25][26]

I don't think they have wings since the Maiar don't have wings either.

This is not debatable, as a simple search in Tolkien's bestiary will confirm the fact.
