Hey guys hows it going i'm new to this site and well I need help for a debate tomorrow. If all of you guys can give me reasons and arguments statistics of why we shouldn't lower the alcohol age to 18 in USA would be very helpful, ( this is my first time ever doing a professional debate so tips would be very helpful on debating also.) Facts, reasons , ect. I know there arguments are going to consist of reasons like oh you can join in the military at 18 so you should be able to drink alcohol or some other non sense. Thanks guys would be very helpful :D

I've debated this topic long enough, I know what to do. I'm still going to argue that it should be lowered to 18, but I'll give you a few stats first.

If you can, start out on the driving side of this. Here's a rough outline.

Say:
Driving statistics. Point out that there are 16,000 accidents due to drunk driving a year in the U.S.A, by MATURE people. Lowering the drinking age to 18 makes less mature people open to alcohol and driving, thus raising the statistics by a lot.

They may say:" "How do you know what ages drunk driving goes for?"
Say it goes the highest from 21-25 year olds, at a whopping 23%.

They may say: "Not many die from drunk driving."
On average, 10,000 people die a year in the U.S from drunk driving.

They may say: "Driving isn't a valid argument in this debate."
Yet it is the main danger of alcohol for both you and other people.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

They may say: You are considered grown-up by age 18, and thus should have grown-up privileges.
If they don't have any sources to back this up: Where does it say that? There is no official law that you are grown-up by age 18. You may not still be mature.
If they have info to back this up: Say 18 is just an age many people think you are grown up by. Sure, they an join the millitary and do all of that stuff, but drinking is a whole bigger responsibility.

They may say: Are you trying to say that you see drinking as a bigger responsibility than the millitary?
Say no, but yet you do have someone guiding your actions in the millitary. When you drink, you don't have much self-control over you and no one else has control over you. You are totally on your own here.

They may say: But 18 year olds are mature enough!
Say this is not the case. 18 year olds through 21 year olds are not mature, as they make up the highest violent crime rate per 100,000 than any other group of ages. 21-24 dropps SIGNIFICANTLY, from 14 down to just 8. Point this out and you've got them in a hole.

Tips:
•Call them out on biased infation or non-legit sources, such as .com (if sources are used.)
•Speak your arguments in an orderly fashion; always be prepped for what's coming next.
•Use prepared rebuttals as arguments if not used:
Example: [Rebuttal] No, 18 year olds actually aren't that mature due to the vioent crime rates.
[Argument] 18 year olds are not mature in many aspects, such as responsibility and consequences, which is a main key to drinking alcohol. This is shown by the violent crime rates of 18 year olds.
•Have good conduct. Don't be mean and thank them for their time.
•Never, EVER dig yourself into a hole. Think about what you are going to say. If they can provide a strong refute to it, don't do it.
•Be cautious asking questions to the other side. They may be as prepared as you are and provide an unexpected answer.

Next round, I will argue that the drinking age should be lowered to 18. But now you know how to refute me.

Good luck in your debate.

Need sources? Got ya covered! Only name the .org, .net, .gov and not the .com. .Com is not a reliable source. Call them out on bad sources if used.
