So, this will basically be similar to the composition contest that my opponent and I had done (http://www.debate.org...) but with lyrics writing instead music composition.

I will give my opponent his topics, and he shall give me mine. The topics can be just about anything...objects, events, people, places, concepts, things...just listing some things for inspiration purposes.

The song's lyrics can use the topic in any way the writer chooses as long as the topic is still significant. What I mean by that is, if I was to give my opponent a topic...such as a book, he could write a song about a book, maybe write about a specific one, maybe write about an imaginary event in which he read one and what happened while reading it, he could also use symbolism. He could use the book as a symbol for a person, with the song really being about how people should not judge others, but literally written about a book (if that makes any sense.) Also, the lyrics don't necessarily need to include the topic, as long as it is obvious that it was written with that topic in mind. So, if the topic was "book", my opponent wouldn't included the word "book" in the lyrics as long as the lyrics clearly described a book. Many songs are written, and people don't know what they're about because the actual topic is not a word in the lyrics, so please feel free to do the same.

The lyrics may take any structure. However, they must have at least 250 words (which really isn't difficult) and can freely exceed that.

This first round is used for me to give the details, and for my opponent to give me my first topic (as well as acceptance.)

Please note, just like the composition contest, we will have 72 hours to write our songs. I am giving us 72 hours so that there is less of a struggle or rush to complete the lyrics while managing other affairs, and also, this allows the song some time to be worked on.

As for voting, all points are to be awarded to the person that in your opinion had the best lyrics, except for grammar. The spelling and grammar point is to be given to the person with the best spelling and grammar, but please, pay attention. There might be times where spelling and grammar rules were purposefully broken. In fact, only give one participant the point for grammar or spelling if the other participant had multiple and/or serious problems with them. If a participant forfeits, they automatically lose the competition, and in that case, regardless of spelling or grammar, all seven points are awarded to the participant that did not forfeit.

To my opponent, I say good luck, and I that I hope this competition is as fun as the last was.

I'd like to thank my opponent for coming up with this terrific debate, and accept his challenge.

My opponent's first song's theme is songwriting.

And here it is, my song with lyrics about songwriting. I added some humor as well as love to this. The song is not a complete joke, but it is definitely pretty easy-going and humorous compared to other songs with love in it. It's mostly about how difficult it is to write a song. And like I said, a bit of love was incorporated to add to the song and make it more than "Oh, woe is me, songwriting isn't easy". Also, just pointing out there's a reference to two songs and one movie. If you catch them, make a comment and list the references.

If Songwriting Was Easy

If I could sit under tree,
Write this all calmly,
I'd have done it all in an hour.
But I've had troubles, you see
'Cause I'm just me,
And I don"t have that kind of superpower

I've never been able to write a song,
I'm always afraid I'll do it wrong,
I get a few ideas, then they"re gone
And I keep on goin' on

But I don't know if I can get along
Without being able to write a song;
I have a desire and it's strong
To write a song, a beautiful song

People would say they loved verse one,
And I how I was a bright as the sun
For writing a chorus that was so fun,
And how the worst part was when it was done

[PRE-CHORUS]
I want to write a song so bad I want to shout
And if I could write I song, I'd write about...

[CHORUS]
You.
It's true.
I'd write about all the things you do
That make me smile too
I'd write a song, an album, an entire band's career
About you.
And all the things you say to me,
And how you are so lovely,
And living ever so happily,
If songwriting was easy.

If songwriting was easy,
And I could just write this quickly,
I would have had it done and off the list.
But it's tricky, you see,
And pretty hard for me,
So, I'm still stuck 'til I'm done with this.

I wanna just bang my head on a wall
And hopefully the rest of the words just fall
Out of my head, and in this verse
But I'll try to write this safely first

'Cause this is already too much of a pain,
I swear right now I'm goin' insane,
I see a purple haze and some purple rain,
And it's all because I"m using my brain

Doubt is what I'm starting to get;
I'm nervous, shaking, beginning to fret
that I won't be able finish this set
Of lyrics. I did, but I'm still not done yet

[PRE-CHORUS]
You don't even know how long it took to figure that all out.
If I'd figured it out fast and I had more time, I'd write about...

[CHORUS]
You.
It's true.
I'd write about all the things you do
That make me smile too.
I'd write a song, an album, an entire band's career
About you.
And all the things you say to me,
And how you are so lovely,
And living ever so happily,
If songwriting was easy

I've spent so much time
Thinking of all these rhymes,
Writing down all these lines,
And making sure they're somewhat fine.
Meanwhile I've been thinking of you
And what I want to do
And that's write a song
Or two,
Or three or four,
Or more,
About you
And then show it to you,
Or maybe sing it you,
Anything as long as I woo you.
I can't win you with looks,
And I can't really cook,
So I gotta find another way to hook
you in to me.
I thought I could write a song,
but it turns out that's not easy.
So I'm stuck, out of luck,
And not having lot's of fun
And maybe these lyrics kind of suck,
But at least I"m almost done.

If I could write this without difficulty
Or make you fall in love with me easily
I wouldn't have to think now and I'd rest my head.
But I can't do that, you see,
And you're not in love with me,
So I've got keep writing this stupid thing instead

[PRE-CHORUS]
But after this I think I'll write about...

[CHORUS]
You.
It's true.
I'd write about all the things you do
That make me smile too
I'd write a song, an album, an entire band's career
About you.
And all the things you say to me,
And how you are so lovely,
And living ever so happily,
If songwriting was easy.

Hey, and look at that, I'm finally done
The day is pretty nice, and I can see the sun
I could go outside, take a nice run
Call a friend, tell him a pun
Go to a gym, lift a ton
Go to church, meet a nun
Catch that rebel scum, right after I set my
weapon to stun
Have a barbecue after I buy some hot dog buns
I can do anything, there's so much to do out
but instead I'm going to write another song
And this one will be about...

You.
It's true.
'Gonna write about all the things you
that make me smile to
'Gonna write a song, an album, an entire band's career
about you.
I'll write about all the things you say to me,
And how you are so lovely,
And living ever so happily,
Even though songwriting isn't easy.

(nb my theme was given to me as "justice" - I totally had to make this super metaphoric)

GOTH ARK AM
[verse one]
I once saw Lady Justice
Sleeping during Russian roulette
Though remiss to reminisce
Of the cityscape abyss
'Twas a city that I'll never forget

In a city of suspect convicts
She slept as blindfolded as a bat
So the people were ticked
'Cause every thief is too thick
To know what they're not giving back

I won't go
To the city of the darkness of my heart
But I can't
Couldn't stand it if I ever depart
I don't know
How I'll ever live without that spark
That un-blind eye that keeps us from the dark

[chorus]
Could it be, Lady Liberty
That I'm equal and free
In a world of partiality?
Save me from the horrors I see
Breathe new fire in me
And let justice restore harmony

[verse two]
I once had a vision
Lost in the translation in my head
An unapparent religion
Justice has no ambition
Is what I'd never thought it said

I once dared to die
Cast one in the river in the night
Justice I could defy
But my fate was to cry
Woven in that candlelight

Lady Justice is never inert
But her small voice that night was still
There I knew I was hurt
This was my just dessert
Sometimes it takes a long shot to kill

I once had a strife
Giving out what I'd taken in
Because I'm like Caesar's wife
Except that I'd take a life
You don't play eye for an eye to win

And the law
Of the jungle gives the lions share
Paid through
The nose of those fair enough to care
About us
Sick and desperate, not a penny to spare
No - that's why I promised I would never go there

[chorus - repeats twice]
Could it be, Lady Liberty
That I'm equal and free
In a world of partiality?
Save me from the horrors I see
Breathe new fire in me
And let justice restore harmony

Seven Were Gone

[INTRO]
One night I had a dream I"ll never forget,
I had gotten into bed, ready to rest,
Ready to sleep, hopefully to have a dream or two
And dream I did, so I"ll share my dream with you.

[VERSE ONE]
When I left reality behind
And watched what my mind
wanted me to see.
I saw people walking,
I could hear them talking,
But they couldn't see or hear me.

I heard one say,
"On this beautiful day,
The seven of us will go on a journey.
And we"ll come back in time,
Tell the people some rhymes,
About what happened and what we got to see."

[CHORUS]
And then seven were gone,
So I"m singing this song
They left our realm for one above
The people bid them well,
As they hopped on the back of an angel.
And her name was Columbia.

[VERSE TWO]
With one thrust of her wings,
She brought them beyond the things
Of our world and into one new.
They had an adventure for a bit,
And when they were bored of it,
They told Columbia they finished what they wanted to do.

So they asked for her to return them,
And that was about when
She began to ascend again.
They didn't expect it,
But she asked for them to respect it,
"Cause there was one more thing to see before the end.

[CHORUS]
And then seven were gone,
So I"m singing this song
They left our realm for one above.
The people bid them well,
As they hopped on the back on an angel.
And her name was Columbia.

[BRIDGE]
Suddenly, what was dark became light,
And what was light became more bright,
Until it seemed the group was looking at nothing but white,
But that didn't matter, because everything seemed alright.
For some time they flew
through
this new bright view
Of the lightest hue
Before they got past the glare,
And beside His chair
They couldn't help but stare
"Cause God was standing there.
He called "Children! Come to me!
I have sent Columbia for thee
For you are worthy
To sit in my kingdom with me."

[VERSE THREE]
With brief thought, the group of seven
Decided to be with God, to go to Heaven
But Columbia turned around.
They asked where she was going to go,
She told them she had to let the people know,
So, she jumped from Heaven and landed on the ground.

On they way down, she made herself a shooting star
So that all people, no matter how far,
Could hear what she had to say.
And when she told them about how the seven
went up to Heaven
They began to cry that day.

[CHORUS]
And then seven were gone
So I"m singing this song
They left our realm for one above,
The people bid them well,
As they hopped on the back of an angel.
And her name was Columbia.

[OUTRO VERSE]
I woke from my dream then
I tried to but couldn't understand
Why the people cried when they heard what Columbia said.
God invited the group to go to Heaven,
That group of seven,
So shouldn't the people have been happy instead?

KILL THE JEWS

[verse one]
OK, no point in hiding it, let me just be blunt with you...

Summon up their conspiracy
And lock up all the Romanii
Crystal night will help us see
Free Germany from Jewery
Nationalistically, patriotically
Feel my Aryan envy
We'll ship them off across the sea
And to the labs of Mengele

Like bacteria of cholera
We should know what the Jewish are
Predators on our culture
Pick away at us like a vulture
Until all we are is a spectre
'Tis better to be a destroyer
So take them to the gas chamber
Kill every Jewish leader

[chorus]
We shall employ them all to their grave
Until every Jew is dead or a slave
We'll just ghetto them out, cause we'll never give in
Until we can enact the final solution

[verse two]
Cleanse Europa of her sins
Of David's star and freemasons
Experiment on all their twins
And so the devil's work begins

We'll steal the Jewish everything
And quash the Warsaw uprising
For we can't have them compromising
Lands we're sure they're despising

I don't need much analysis
This pacifistic paralysis
Is a deep abyss, status quo's amiss
Can we stand by and ignore this?

Peace in our time, but for the crime
Of filthy, rotten, slimy swines
Mocking us with their ghetto shrines
But they can't decline what we design, 'cause

[chorus]
We shall employ them all to their grave
Until every Jew is dead or a slave
We'll just ghetto them out, cause we'll never give in
Until we can enact the final solution

[bridge]
Time is now - all is done
We will kill - everyone
Holocaust - go ahead
Holocaust - see them dead
Holocaust - psychotic
Holocaust - eugenic
Holocaust - unforeseen
Holocaust - race hygiene
Holocaust! Holocaust! Holocaust!

[insert awesome guitar solo]

[chorus - repeats twice]
We shall employ them all to their grave
Until every Jew is dead or a slave
We'll just ghetto them out, cause we'll never give in
Until we can enact the final solution

[outro]
In smouldering ruins and ashes a people lies
Away from the lies, carcasses are piled high
Too late the truth revealed
And thus their fate was sealed

A Thousand Times Tetris

[VERSE ONE]
Shoot "em up, you"re at war,
Kill "em all and you've won.
But what would you play that for?
That doesn't sound even sound like fun.

Button mash, hash and slash,
Do that and you beat the game.
That"s a waste of money, a waste of cash,
They"re all that way, they"re all the same

[PRE-CHORUS]
Now-a-days,
I hate the video games the kids play.
But when I was young,
There was this one game
That really was fun
...and it"s called...

[CHORUS]
Tetris! Tetris!
I know it"s old
But that doesn't bother me.
I've already been told,
But it is simply
The greatest game the world has ever seen!

[VERSE TWO]
There"s no guns, there"s no blood,
And it"s still better than what"s out today.
But it"s popularity was killed by the flood
Of the new awful games kids play

And they play as criminals, and become them too,
They learn to kill people, learn to steal rides.
You can"t blame Tetris for crime, can you?
Blame a puzzle for homicide?

[PRE-CHORUS]
In these times,
The video games suck and cause crimes.
But when I was young
There was this one game
That really was fun
...and it"s called...

[CHORUS]
Tetris! Tetris!
I know it"s old
But that doesn't bother me
I've already been told,
But it is simply
The greatest game the world has ever seen!

[BRIDGE]
Let them hit the ground, but not the top,
Might seem easy, but they never stop
Coming down.
But you have the power to make the blocks spin;
Use that power to avoid loss, but you can"t win
"Cause there"s no way to win.
You make a line and it disappears,
Do that so many times and the level is cleared
And then you"re on to the next
That game is so great, and makes you wanna play again
It"s a puzzle, it"s brilliant, and made by a Russian
It"s Tetris. Tetris.

[IMAGINED TO BE A GOSPEL BREAKDOWN WHERE CHOIR SINGS "TETRIS. TETRIS" AND SOLOIST(S) AD LIBS. SO THIS IS A BASIC VERSION OF WHAT IT COULD BE]
A thousand times, Tetris.
Tetris. Tetris.
A thousand times, Tetris.
Tetris. Tetris.
It"s the game!
Tetris. Tetris.
That beautiful game!
Tetris. Tetris.
Spin those tetriminos!
Tetris. Tetris.
Let them spin, let them spin!
Tetris. Tetris.
Tetris. Tetris

[CHORUS]
Tetris! Tetris!
I know it"s old
But that doesn't bother me
I've already been told,
But it is simply
The greatest game the world has ever seen!

hit! - round - fight! - smackdown!

[verse one]
Do you dare challenge Mighty Iron?
Hercules? Or Lethal Weapon?
Will you get schooled by the Spanish Strongman?
Or will the Titan beat your brains in?

Will you be crushed by the Heavy Crusher?
Or out-wrestled by the Wrecker of Russia?
Outcast smacks ya, back to yo mama
Or face Living Legend, cause you know there's no other!

[chorus]
Every man you face
Every second place
Every fall from grace
Does not conclude the race
Every tear you sweat
Every bruise you get
Every step you step
Know the battle's not over yet

[verse two]
Behold the man of a thousand holds
Or the wrestling champ made of pure gold
Or the Ring Master when he goes Stone Cold
Watch the epic match unfold!

Can you stand the Russian Bear?
Or how about the cruel Nightmare?
Undertaker's deathly stare?
Would you face them anywhere?

[chorus repeats]

[bridge]
Explosive, Tenacious
Wonderous, People's Choice
Invincible, Audacious
The wrestling gods fight over us

[instrumental bit]

[verse three]
See the man they claim is the world's most strong
And heavy blows from mad King Kong
The Virus just can't go wrong
Till Dapper beats you back to where you belong

Force to be reckoned with, The Big K
Triple H you'd want to obey
And to The King your tribute pay
Then you're well on your way if they don't lock you away
