The legalization of any drug may cause major problems in our society. When a doctor proscribes a drug it is for medical uses, but is sometimes used to get high. The patients that want to use marijuana to get high may crack the system and not need to go see a doctor. The drugs may find there way into our schools and cause a more major drug problems in our schools. If we do not want an increase of drug issues in our society Marijuana should not be legalized.

//The legalization of any drug may cause major problems in our society.//
It is upon you to fufill the BoP to prove why.

//When a doctor proscribes a drug it is for medical uses, but is sometimes used to get high.//
Point being?

//The patients that want to use marijuana to get high may crack the system and not need to go see a doctor.//
Other drugs may be used for this as well. What, exactly, is your point?

//The drugs may find there way into our schools and cause a more major drug problems in our schools.//
Fatty foods are just as addictive and harmful, if not more, than marijuana. Not only this, but it has already contaminated our population with it's unhealthy benefits. Should we ban fatty foods? Also, it is still up to you to prove how marijuana is harmful for any of your arguments to hold sway.

//If we do not want an increase of drug issues in our society Marijuana should not be legalized.//
Again, what is your point? You have not proven how Marijuana is harmful, why it should be illegalized, or pretty much anything to make any of your arguments hold weight.

In conclusion, I hope my opponent starts to take this site seriously. It is not a site where you can come and just post useless drivel and expect to win. This is a serious debate site where we try to have debates of quality. If my opponent cannot do this, I suggest he leave until he can do so. Otherwise, he won't be able to win any debates fairly.

Resolution negated.

When Marijuana is used for a long period of time it would cause harmful effects on our body. The studies of medical marijuana raise alot of questions and less answers. The Variables associated with using medical marijuana on patients. There are alternative drugs that are safer and have the same effects as medical marijuana would. Medical marijuana has not gone through enough patient safety testing and clinical efficancy trials. It is classified as a quote "Schedule 1" substance meaning high potential for abuse and no medical value.

Harmful effects: There are over 400 chemicals in the marijuana plant, the main one being HTC. Some immediate effects of this drug are a faster heart beat, reduction of short term memory and the reduction of concentration. Long term users of the drug may become dependant on it. Which means that they would have a hard time limiting usage of the drug.
Affect on schools: The earlier people start using drugs that they will likely start using more powerful drugs, causing young users not to do school work. Marijuana effects the ability to think, reading comprehension and verbal skills, When students are "high" they do not retain what is being taught to them.
Therefore for those reasons we should not legelize marijuana for medical use.

"When Marijuana is used for a long period of time it would cause harmful effects on our body. "
Name some, and then cite sources.

"There are alternative drugs that are safer and have the same effects as medical marijuana would."
Name these. Cite sources.

"Medical marijuana has not gone through enough patient safety testing and clinical efficancy trials."
Oh?
http://www.drugpolicy.org...
http://newmexicoindependent.com...
http://www.drugscience.org...
Those are just a few from about two minutes of searching.

"It is classified as a quote "Schedule 1" substance meaning high potential for abuse and no medical value."
Source this, and then provide a better explanation of how this has anything to do of why it should not be legalized.

"Harmful effects: There are over 400 chemicals in the marijuana plant, the main one being HTC. Some immediate effects of this drug are a faster heart beat, reduction of short term memory and the reduction of concentration. "
Note that these are short term effects and that they fade.

"Long term users of the drug may become dependant on it."
Cite sources, and then construct a valid argument on how this should affect its legalization in any way.

"Which means that they would have a hard time limiting usage of the drug."
Non-Sequitor.

"Affect on schools: The earlier people start using drugs that they will likely start using more powerful drugs,"
Cite how this is relevant, or how it is factual.

"..causing young users not to do school work."
Non-sequitor.

"Marijuana effects the ability to think, reading comprehension and verbal skills, When students are "high" they do not retain what is being taught to them."
Cite this. Also, these are, again, short term affects that wear off shortly after usage of marijuana.

My opponent has not constructed any valid arguments with any valid sources.
Since he has not proposed anything that would tip the voting scales in his favor, and he had the BoP, I strongly urge a vote for Con.

The long term effects of using Marijuana is upper respitory problems, immune system problems and may play a roll in causing cancer. My opponent pointed out erlyer in round two that I only had listed short effects off marijuana. They are still side effects from the drug and can still harm some people.

http://alcoholism.about.com...
http://drugabuse.gov...

Marijuana is good for treating anxiety disorder but there is a drug called Lexapro(excitalopram oxalate) which does the same as marijuana would do. Why would we need to legalize marijuana when we already have drugs to treat illments that marijuana can treat?

www.Lexapro.com

Schedule I drugs have a high tendency for abuse and have no accepted medical use. This drug has a high tendency to be abused even by medical users, as any other proscription drugs it would add to the amount of quote "Frequent flyers" that come to a doctors offices and emergency rooms just to get the drug.

I would like to point out to the voters of this debate that my opponent has yet to post why marijuana should be legalized. He keeps saying that my argument wont hold. He has yet to persuade me on why it should be used as a medical treatment. The whole spew of how my argument has no meaning may be true but can you expect the readers to vote for my opponent if they know no facts on why it would be a good drug? I urge all readers to vote for pro due to the fact that my opponent has given little fact to the effectiveness of marijuana as a medical drug.

The long term effects of using Marijuana is upper respitory problems,"
//however, a recent case-controlled study found no positive associations between marijuana use and lung, upper respiratory, or upper digestive tract cancers.9//

From my opponent's own source, this can be found. In fact, the entire article makes evasive statements and probability arguments, where it does not show the chances of developing any effects.
The only place where it touches upon negative respiratory problems against proves to be short-term, and the effects themselves are mild. Also, most of the cited negative effects are false, as evidenced by my previously named sources.

"immune system problems"
Marijuana has been shown to actually help HIV/AIDS victims, and may possibly be the cure for cancer we've been looking for.
http://www.medical-marijuana-testimonials.org...
Please note that immune systems problems was not actually in my opponent's source.

"and may play a roll in causing cancer."
Excuse me? Again, marijuana may be the cure for cancer, not a causation of it.

"My opponent pointed out erlyer in round two that I only had listed short effects off marijuana. They are still side effects from the drug and can still harm some people."
Scissors can harm people far worse than marijuana. Should we outlaw scissors? Your reasons as to why we should illegalize marijuana are faulty.

"Marijuana is good for treating anxiety disorder but there is a drug called Lexapro(excitalopram oxalate) which does the same as marijuana would do. Why would we need to legalize marijuana when we already have drugs to treat illments that marijuana can treat?"

Your reasoning is faulty because of three things.
1)Marijuana does not include the side effects of Lexapro, which can be dangerous. Some side effects include suicidal thoughts for Lexapro.
http://depression.emedtv.com...

2)Marijuana is better than Lexapro. As noted before, marijuana can cure and aid many diseases/depressions/etc.

3)The reasoning that just because something isn't as good as another, it should be illegalized, is idiotic at best, and corrupt at worse.
It leaves no room for market nor competitiveness. Also, some people may be allergic to Lexapro.

"Schedule I drugs have a high tendency for abuse and have no accepted medical use. This drug has a high tendency to be abused even by medical users, as any other proscription drugs it would add to the amount of quote "Frequent flyers" that come to a doctors offices and emergency rooms just to get the drug."
How this applies to marijuana I don't know.
Marijuana is not addictive, as evidenced by my previous sources.
http://www.drugpolicy.org...
Medical use, I don't even need to cite anything. Besides, my opponent already conceded that marijuana is an anti-depressant.
Also, I think this particular argument was plagiarized.

"I would like to point out to the voters of this debate that my opponent has yet to post why marijuana should be legalized. He keeps saying that my argument wont hold. I don't need to, simply because the BoP was on you. If you had problems before, you should've let me know beforehand.

Anyways, you asserted a claim, and, as Con, all I had to do was debase/invalidate it. Nothing more, as you hold the BoP.

I obviously earned S&G, and reliable sources, at the very least. The convincing arguments would be biased for me to vote on, so I will keep my vote out from that.

Change the resolution to:

And then make yourself Pro.
