Was the merger between Singapore and Malaya destined to fail?

The two countries had different views from the beginning hence the merger was doomed to fail from the start. Firstly, Singapore wanted the merger because it would solve all her economic problems and gain revenue. However, Malaya was interested in the merger because she saw the merger as a way of getting rid of the communists. Furthermore, there were many political and racial disputes between Singapore and Malaya which eventually led to the separation.

If you are 'Pro', it means you agree that the merger will fail, 'con' means you disagree that the merger was not destined to fail.
