I believe that Michael Jordan is the greatest NBA player of all time because, for one thing, no one could do anything that Jordan could do. True Wilt and Kareem are more prolific scorer, and Dr. J and Jerry West were larger icons, but none of them were as consistent with their shots as he was. Jordan is also one of the greatest dunkers, clutch shooters, and drivers of all time. No one is close to passing MJ.

Hello CON. Nice to meet you.

There are a lot of NBA players that supposedly are as good as Michael Jordan. Here is a list of them and here is why Jordan is better.

Kobe Bryant: Kobe is an amazing shooter, but he was a huge ball hog. On the other hand, Jordan would do a lot of the work by himself and then pass the ball to an open player. Statistically, Jordan also averaged more steals, blocks, and rebounds, and assists than Kobe Bryant. 1

Bill Russell: Russell is a dominant center and won a lot of championships, but that was because there was not a lot of good players or teams back then. Besides, there is no way that even Bill Russell could stop the spin moves, crossovers, and fakes of Michael Jordan.

Magic Johnson: Obviously Magic is the greatest passer ever, but he could not score like Michael Jordan could. Basically "Johnson's offensive versatility doesn't outweigh Jordan's sheer ability to score and his high-level defensive play." 2

Larry Bird: Bird is a good scorer, but Jordan is a great scorer as he was able to score 63 points on Larry Bird in one game. Bird never did that to Jordan. And while Larry Bird was a good perimeter shooter, Jordan was able to drive in and shoot much better than Bird could do.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Undeniably Kareem is one of the best scorers in the history of the NBA, but even he could not carry the fame, and the moves that Jordan possessed. One other thing about stats. Kareem played four more seasons than Michael Jordan did and Jordan was injured a few of his seasons. Kareem is good, but Jordan is better.

Wilt Chamberlain: I admit that 100 points a game is a hard thing to do, but there was no other good center (besides Bill Russell) in the league at that time. In fact, Chamberlain only played against 8 hall of famers in his whole career. 3 Jordan played, and beat, a lot of other good players in the league such as Johnson, Barkley, Bird, Ewing, Olajuwon and many more.

Shaquille O'Neal: He is easily one of the most dominant centers of all time, but his size was a huge factor. He didn't have many ball handling skills that Michael Jordan had. Sure, it would be hard to guard Shaq, but it would be much harder to guard Jordan. One more thing: don't forget about free throws.

Julius Erving: Erving was a good scorer, and a terrific dunker, but even Dr. J couldn't do the reverse 360 slam dunks that Jordan could do. Besides, Jordan was an amazing scorer and a very good defender.

Hakeem Olajuwon: Olajuwon was a great center and could even shoot some outside shots, but he could not do any of the moves that Jordan could do. Jordan can easily guard Hakeem Olajuwon, while Olajuwon would have a very hard time keeping up with Jordan.

Oscar Robertson: The human triple-double. He was quick and hard to beat, but I think that Jordan was just a little quicker than Oscar was. I also believe that Jordan was a better scorer, rebounder, and assister than Oscar. Besides, Jordan is higher than Robertson on the all time scoring list.

LeBron James: James is a good player, but he is very predictable, and like Shaq his size is a huge factor. One thing that Jordan has above all of these players is heart. James wants to win, but Jordan would do anything but die on that court to win the ball game.

For all of these reasons, vote PRO.

Eldoco502 to day Wilt was 10% skill is an absolute disgrace to him. He was one of the most skilled players ever. Also, thats not what greatest and best is. They both mean the same thing. Either way its kareem then wilt then jordan

Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all-time, whereas the best basketball player of all time is either Wilt Chamberlain or Shaquille O'Neal. That's why Michael Jordan is known as the GOAT.
A player that is classified in the greatest category succeeds in their chosen sport using 90% skill and 10% physical domination over their opponents.
A player that is classified in the best category succeeds in their chosen sport using 10% skill and 90% physical domination over their opponents.

Statistical data can be used but opinion is a major factor.

Will there be an statistical data used in this debate, or are we solely going to be basing our opinions off of the criteria listed:
"consistent with their shots.... greatest dunkers, clutch shooters, and drivers of all time"

None of those are true values of one's 'basketball prowess'

All time? Just to pre-empt the obvious semantic issue, unless you are claiming knowledge of the future you have no idea whether Jordan's talent will not be eclipsed by a player in coming years.
