I dont think so. Has anyone taken a closer look at this guy? The only reason so many people support him is because of his relgious stance. Everything else that comes out of his mouth is either insane, liberal, or both.
How can anyone ever think that a man who supports removing people with AIDS from society and wants to find a 'cure' for homosexuality. He is so bold as to say his bump in the polls is because God wants him to be president? I dont buy it and frankly, he scares me.

i believe that Huckabee would make a great president in many ways, at least better than the rest of the republican candidates.

First, i would like to refute some of your points

you said that;

1) people only support Huckabee because of his religious stance
2)he believes in removing people with aids from society
3)he wants to find a cure with homosexuality.

First of all, people don't only support him because of his religious stance. People support him because their religion fits in perfectly to his agendas, not because he is one religion or the other. The south of the country, which is baptist, and which represents a large percentage of republicans in this country, happens to be quite fond of mitt romney as well, even though he is mormon, which many people in the south say is a wrong religion.

Secondly, yes, about thirty years ago, mike huckabee did say he thought people with aids should be removed from society. at the time, aids had just been discovered, so it is only natural people would fear getting the disease, which still today has no cure. Since then, Mike Huckabee has recanted his statement, which also shows he has the ability to admit when he has been wrong, a good quality for a president.

Thirdly, how many of the 10 republican candidates for president have not said he wants to find a cure for homosexuality. it is a common theme in all republican presidential candidates, past and present, and is only a ploy to attract votes for the election from the south. Even though president bush and reagan both ran under a anti-homosexual banner, neither of them did anything to take rights from homosexuals in this country, so what gives you any idea that Mike huckabee will try?

Now, i would like to state some of my own points.

1) Huckabee has experience in politics. Of the 47 presidents in our nation's history, the most common job to have before becoming president was being governor of a state. Mike huckabee was governor of Arkansas, the same state as bill clinton was governor in some time before. Being governor helps prepare you for being an executive, something senators or mayors have never really experienced.

2) Huckabee is not a flip flopper, and tells voters his honest agenda. In this election, we cannot count on candidates like Hillary Clinton, Mitt Romney, or Rudy Guliani to tell us the truth of their agendas, while Huckabee has always been upfront and has always passionately told us exactly what he believes in, and what he will do once he is sitting behind the desk in the oval office.

-These are the reasons why i think Mike huckabee should be the 48th president of the United States.

Mike Huckabee is all about his religion. Its the only thing he has used to jump in the polls and the only thing he every wants to talk about. He even takes cheap shots at other opponents, specifically Romney. He says things like "Dont mormons believe that jesus and satan are brothers?" Thats a cheap shot at Romney's religion thats only goal is to win over romney-supporting christians. Because of that, I have no faith in his ethic, minister or not.
Secondly, he has nothing to offer that anyone wants. Anyone who looks at his record is hardly impressed and even a bit dismayed. 1,033 pardons in 10 years. Thats a lot fo pardons for one man to issue. He even pardoned convicted murderers. He spends money like a democrat. 6 billion to 16 billion is not a small sum of money. Id hate to see how he handles money a national basis. He has supported state paid tuition for illegal immigrants as well. Aside from his faith, he seems pretty liberal.
Lastly, every republican has said that homosexuality needs to be handled in some way, but no one has said anything as bluntly as "it needs a cure". Its not some kind of disease. It may be an issue but it even offends me, and im no huge supporter for gay rights. Also, he never recanted anything about quarintining HIV positive people. In fact, as i recall, he stood by them.
"Huckabee made the statements as a candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in 1992, the Associated Press reported, as part of his answers to 229 questions submitted to him by the AP.

But Huckabee said Saturday that he wrote those answers at a time when little was known about the virus.

"If I was making those same comments today, I might make them a little differently, but obviously I have to stand by what I said,"
-Fox News

He brings nothing to offer for the office other than that he is a man of faith. if thats the case, Ill vote for Romney. He is a man of faith, a former republican governor or the most liberal state, a man who has financial genious and powerful leadership ability. Whats Huckabee got?

Firstly, i would like to refute all of your points. You stated that...

1) He only focuses on religion

Firstly, he does not focus only on religion. You cant govern a whole state on just religion. Yes, his religious beliefs are well known and he mentions them frequently, but he is not all about religion. In fact, he is in favor of protecting the enviornment, socalized healthcare for POOR SICK CHILDREN, and perfecting public school districts. No matter what label you put on his agendas, they are certainly worth putting him in the oval office.

2) His track record is depressing (Pardons, Spends too much)

Unless you can state one pardon of a convicted criminal that had no reason behind it, i cannot take your word that this man has put harmfull criminals back on the street. But, as a matter of fact, Mike Huckabee has been praised for how LITTLE he spent as Governor of Arkansas. Huckabee was awarded the "Friend of the Taxpayer" award by the Americans for Tax Reform because of how much he cut state spending in Arkansas. It seems that people actually recognized him for his role in stablizing the budget, and slightly raising taxes, something we need in office in order to solve the problem involving 3 trillion dollars in debt in the federal reserve.

3) He has supported state paid tuition for illegal immigrants

Some people take a very hippocritical stance on education for illegal immigrints. If illegal immigrints are sucking money out of our country's school system and health care (which they are not), and are here to say unless we have enough police to find, arrest, and deport all 11 million or more of them, why not educate them so at some point in the future they will be funding our schools and medicare along with us. Seems to be no reason why not to spend money not just to make their lives better, but ours as well.

4) Did not entierly recant statements on AIDS and homosexuality

The truth is, that even if you are president, the cure to homosexuality will never come to be, since it cant and shouldnt be cured. And, whether or not to legalize gay marriage, union, or whatever the hell you want to call it, does not fall on the sholders of the president, but the governors of individual states. SO, what difference will huckabee make to this field that you are so worried about. Also, he may have said stupid things in the past, like he would wish that we could send people with hiv away from society, but that is not even constitutionally possible, nor would even a conservative congress vote for the change, so why not we look towards what Mike huckabee wants and can do, insted of looking for things he wants to do that he couldnt in a million years.

Now, i would like to move on to some of my own points

Unlike what you said, how huckabee sounds "liberal", huckabee doesnt sound liberal, but a moderate republican, something we havent seen in office in a long time, and may be what this country needs.

1) Huckabee works hard for education

While in office in arkansas, Huckabee dealt with education well. Firstly, he reorganized school districts so each one would have roughly 1,500 students, unlike in the past where one district had 22,100 children, and another district had 310 kids. Then, he passed into law a bill that required his government to fund all school districts equally well, a system of organization that should be made national for maximum results from our failing school districts, especially in urban areas. Also, Mike Huckabee passed a law requiring public schools to weigh and advise children on eating habits in order to combat obesity statewide.

2) Huckabee works hard for children's healthcare.

As a result of the ARKids first, a program that re-directed medicaid and SCHIP along with arkansas government spending, to helping children attain healthcare and tobacco tax revenue being re-directed into the ARKids program, the percentage of un-insured children in arkansas dropped from 12% to 9%. This has saved possible lives across the state, and brilliant mr huckabee im sure could make the program work on a federal level.

3) Huckabee can, and has, been able to deal with large scale natural disasters.

After faced with an influx of 70,000 refugees from gulf states after hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Mike huckabee lifted bans on pets and fire in state parks across the state, in order to create a large staging area for the relief effort. In addition, he re-organized all non-state controlled shelters and hotels under a government office so that all 70,000 people had an adequate place to stay until they could return home. We cant say that much for the federal government can we?

4) Huckabee streghtened the economy

During his tenure in office, the state economy grew by a total of 4.4% while the economy of the entire country grew only by 4.2%, a significant difference.

5)Mike huckabee cares about the enviornment.

Under huckabee, 1/64 of all state tax revenue went to protecting the enviornment, a significant amount. Also, huckabee placed a high tax on gasoline to encourage the use of renewable fuels, in which the profits went to repairing roads and bridges state wide.

Mike huckabee also vetoed a bill that would allow people to drink on the streets in entertainment districts in arkansas cities, something huckabee apposed.

Huckabee's agendas are worth our attention, and from what you have just read, i hope you now believe huckabee should be our next president.

1. The man leaves crosses in the background of TV ads and then denies it as a coincedence. Do you know how serious they are about what goes in the background of one of those ads? There is NO way they didnt notice the cross. Especially when they reviewed the commercial before releasing it. It was intentional.
"My faith is my life - it defines me. My faith doesn't influence my decisions, it drives them. For example, when it comes to the environment, I believe in being a good steward of the earth. I don't separate my faith from my personal and professional lives."
-MikeHuckabee.com
He says himself, his faith would drive his decisions. Every decision he makes, he makes based on religion.
He also has an entire 60 second TV Ad that tells people just how relgious he is.

2. I talked to a guy just last night who talked about how he is known in Arkansas as "Tax Hike Mike".

Former Arkansas State Representative Randy Minton (R) says:
"[Huckabee] says he's pro-family. If you're raising taxes on the families of Arkansas, causing wives to go out and get jobs to make ends meet, that's not pro-family."

Arkansas State Senator John Paul Capps, a Democrat, says:

"[Huckabee] outshines (other Republican hopefuls) with his glibness and ability to speak...He's quick with answers and leaves a good impression. In the past, he blamed Democrats for raising taxes...We voted for them, but he proposed them."

"Mike Huckabee raised more taxes in 10 years in office than Bill Clinton did in his 12 years." -- writes Ernie Dumas, Arkansas Leader.

"...the average Arkansas tax burden increased 47% over Huckabee's tenure. Huckabee supported (in chronological order) a sales tax hike; gas and diesel fuel tax hikes; another sales tax hike; a cigarette tax hike; a nursing home bed tax; another sales tax hike; an income surcharge tax; a tobacco tax hike; taxes on Internet access; and higher beer taxes. Huckabee also oversaw a 50-percent increase in spending; happily signed a minimum wage increase and encouraged national Republicans to do the same."
-National Review

Tax Hike Mike also lies to the public. He has said 5 times that he signed the gas taxes in arkansas into law after it was placed on a ballot and voted on by 80% of voters. Huckabee actually signed the gas tax into law first. After he signed it into law, a vote was placed on the ballot asking voters whether or not they wanted to use more state funding to dramtically improve roads. It never said anything about gas taxes.

3. If illegals are sucking money out of the schools systems, we dont need to be giving them more, we need to be stopping it. The fact is, illegals are criminals. They are breaking the law by even attending school and we do not need to be paying for their college too.

4. I dont care if its constitutionally impossible. He still wants to do it whether or not he can. Just the fact that he wants to do it turns me away. His opinions, whether or not u can actually execute them, still say something about his character.

As for the last 5 bullets. Ive come up with a few facts of my own

1. Huckabee has been investigated by the ethics comittee 14 times and charged with 5 violations involving his campaign money. He used senate campaign money to pay himself 14,000 dollars and did not report it to the comittee. He then used 43,000 dollars in Leut. Gov. campaign money to buy himself a plane and when he reported it, he hid that fact the HE actually owned the plane. If he had owned the plane, it would have been a violation of campaign laws. He refused subpoenas of the ethics comittee. He did not report recieving 23,500 dollars in donation. Huckabee sued the ethics comittee twice so they would lay off. he also spent some of his 60,000-a-year business funds from the state on personal things, specifically, pizza, a dog house, a bbq grill, and panty hose for his wife.

2. When he left office, he spent 13,000 dollars to destroy the hardrives of almost 100 computers. SOmething to hide??? Most think so. Maybe campaign budget fraud.

3. This is about those pardons. You asked me to name one pardon with no reason behind it. I can name a few.

James Maxwell- killed a church of christ minister. Huckabee reduced his sentence because he worked at the governors mansion.

Samuel W. Taylor- was convicted on drug charges. he was pardoned because Taylor knew Huckabee's sister in high school. There really werent any other reasons anyone could find.

Don Clark - convicted of theft. Pardoned on a pastors recomendation??? Thats no reason to release a thief. (Fun fact: Huckabee released many many people on pastorial recomendation.)

Denver Whitham (my personal favorite) - beat a man to death with a lead pipe. Was released on parole by Huckabee for unkown reasons.

Wayne Dumond - convicted of rape. Was released after Huckabee heard Dumond had been "born again".

Gov. Jim Guy Tucker - forced to resign office, Huckabee took his place as governor. After 21 days in prison Gov. Tucker was pardoned. Huckabee gave his reason to be that holding Tucker would "cost too much".

Huckabee granted clemency on average once every four days. The three previous governors of arkansas served almost twice as long and still only granted half that. (Note* two of the previous three governors were democrats.)

Huckabee is not suited for the job. He cant handle money AT ALL. He raised taxes and spent his campaign money on himself. He will destroy our economy, and he will destroy our national budget. He is not an ethical man. I dont trust him at all.

During my final round, i would like to refute your points and conclude my previous arguments in favor of mike huckabee for president.

Firstly, you say that mike huckabee places crosses in the background of his campaign commercials and says that religion drives him and his beliefs on many issues. The truth is, even if he says that religion is what drives his beliefs and agendas, as long as those agendas are good ideas, and respectable ones, so what if they are driven by religion. All that matters is what he wants to do in office, and not what drives him to do what he does.

Secondly, you say that mike huckabee did raise taxes while in office. Though, you have neglected to say why that is a bad thing. As i have already told you through my previous arguments, huckabee has re-directed taxes towards benefiting the people, and his government cut spending so much that he was recognized with an award for it. In a time when our government is seriously in debt, around a grand total of 5 trillion dollars, it is important to find a man who can raise taxes, spend little of the taxes he collects on himself, and can get re-elected enough times to serve 10 whole years as governor of Arkansas. If people were so opposed to the tax increases, why was he re-elected multiple times? He must have been doing something the people of Arkansas like.

Thirdly, You say that huckabee lied to the public in his statement about raised gasoline taxes. Huckabee did not lie, as i have found out by reading past statements by him, the people misunderstood the ballot initiative he had proposed to think that they were to chose whether or not there would be taxes. the truth is that the people of arkansas were at fault for the so-called "lie"

Fourthly, you say that we should not be educating illegal immigrants. the truth is we cannot deny education to 11 million americans, many of whom are now birth-right citizens and are entitled to education. And, who ever said anything about paying for illegal immigrants' college education. Huckabee never signed a bill that did what you propose.

Fifthly, you say that huckabee has been charged with multiple violations involving campaign money. Unfortunately, you have neglected to say whether or not he was proven guilty on any occasion, or fined any amount of money for his actions. So, are you using charges, but no real convictions to prove that Huckabee has been fraudulent with his campaign money. But, what evidence i do have is the fact that despite these allegations of fraud, the people of arkansas voted for him multiple times, so what does that say about how much the people care about whether he (possibly) took money from campaign contributions, and how much it matters at all. And you say he destroyed computer hard drives to cover up campaign fraud, but do you have any proof at all. The truth is anything could be on those hard-drives, so what is the point of making allegations that have no real proof behind them?

Sixthly, you say that many people were pardoned by huckabee during his LONG tenure in office as governor of Arkansas. I researched into some of your allegations of family connection and murder pardons, and my finds were shocking. Many had faced trial irregularities, though not all. But i did find that your story of the man who beat someone to death with a lead pipe, who you say was pardoned, his sentence was only commuted a month, and he was eventually sent to jail for his life sentence. So i am reluctant to point out that if you made such a misleading mistake in this case, what should make me, or anyone believe the rest of your allegations against huckabee are well supported with true facts, not hunches and lies. Also, your candidate of choice, Mitt Romney, had a fair share of clemency issues as well. Why do you support Mitt Romney if he has had the same clemency issues you accuse Huckabee of creating.

In conclusion, though you dont trust Huckabee, i do, and a majority of republicans do as well. Also, if you have read my previous arguments, huckabee will not "ruin the economy and the national budget" as you have said, but he will echo his success in Arkansas, and will do more for the national budget and economy than we could ever dream of. Huckabee has handled every situation imaginable during ten years in office, and has made plenty of good decisions that benefited everyone in his state, so why should you deny him your vote? I have proven he is the best candidate out there, and will make this country more grand than it has ever been, and that is why i believe i have won this debate.

Ah it's emboldening to see another young devotee battling those wicked kings of destruction: the Republicans! Who would destroy all kindness and freedom of the world, if the sons of righteousness and freedom: the Democrats, wouldn't counter them at every turn of their unholy plan! We're counting on you sir, revive our souls! In the holy name of Democrat!

I think this debate has a clear winner, iluvb8. I am sorry Avidoct but you sound like a recording of one of Romney's political speeches. And political speeches are not known to based in reality but constructed to have attacks that resonate and are repeated.

I think iluvb8 did an excellent job refuting those compaign slogans you seem to love so much Avidoct.

But while I think iluvb8 won the debate, I think in the end he is supporting the wrong man. Romney has the credentials of reforming companies that are failing. He has some of the best minds in the public sector ready to be on his team if he wins the presidency. I think that with all the financial problems and inefficiency that exists in our government we need to elect a person that not only promises he will fix it , but has the history of actually doing so.

Just thought I'd point out that the first reported case of AIDS happened in 1981. AIDS had not been discovered 30 years ago. Mike Huckabee made his statements in 1992 at which point no scientist studying the disease recommended a quarantine.

He made the statement 15 years ago, not 30.
