Miley Ray Cyrus is a bad influence to young girls and even adults. In 2013, Cyrus signed a recording contract with RCA Records, and generated controversy by cultivating a sexually explicit public image while promoting her fourth studio album "Bangerz". When speaking about Bangerz Cyrus stated she felt the album had a "dirty south" feel. In August 2013, Cyrus was the subject of widespread media attention and public scrutiny following a controversial performance and duet with Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. The performance began with Cyrus performing "We Can't Stop" in teddy bear-themed attire. Following this, Thicke entered the stage singing "Blurred Lines" alternatively with Cyrus, who stripped down to a skin-colored, latex two-piece outfit. Cyrus subsequently touched Thicke's crotch area with a giant foam finger and twerked against his crotch. An article published in The Hollywood Reporter described the performance as "crass" and "reminiscent of a bad acid trip". Controversy over the performance largely overshadowed the attention that was given to other major events of the night, such as the reunion of 'N Sync and performances by Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. Cyrus' performance was described by XXL critic B. J. Steiner as a "trainwreck in the classic sense of the word as the audience reaction seemed to be a mix of confusion, dismay and horror in a cocktail of embarrassment", while the BBC said she stole the show with a "raunchy performance. News and social media sites featured numerous articles about parental concerns with the performance's impact on children. Cyrus' performance was reported to contribute towards the dehumanization of black women by mimicking "ratchet culture" and using them as living props, swatting one on the backside. Cyrus has mentioned her use of cannabis throughout several interviews."the best drug on earth" and called it, along with MDMA, a "happy drug". On November 10, 2013, while accepting the Best Video award at the 2013 MTV Europe Music Awards, Cyrus smoked what appeared to be a joint on stage, which was removed from the delayed broadcasting of the program in the United States. "I love weed, I just love getting stoned."
Throughout the years we have seen her grow up. She became a young woman, who gained a lot of fans while playing in the series Hannah Montana. It seems, however, that with the end of the series her normal behavior also ended. Appearing half naked, smoking marijuana on stage, masturbating in front of the audience, kissing women during performances, touching the crotch and butts of the dancers, spitting on audience" All of this became her normal behavior. And with those actions, Miley Cyrus has a bad influence on her young fans. We all know that she is no longer a little girl, but she could show her adulthood in a different way. With all the power, money and influence that she has, she could help to a better world. But her main essence is to twerk and to appear naked in her videos.

Music used to be important. Today, however, we do not listen with ears anymore, we listen with our eyes. Women no longer sell their music, they are selling their bodies. They are selling sex. And Miley is no exception. Many girls worshiped her when she was Hannah Montana. She was their role model and their idol. I believe that she is still an inspiration to the vast majority of these girls. And I wonder what kind of example she is giving them with her current behavior.

Miley Cyrus is obviously not aware that also younger children are listening and watching her. They copy her behavior and her actions. She is not aware that she is handing over bad moral values to the younger generations. With all the attention that she receives and with all the money earned, she probably does not even care about that at all.

Apparently, she is also not aware of the fact that one day she will have children as well. And they will also have someone who will be a role model to them. If not before, she will then realize how very important it is that children do have a good example. And maybe then, she will understand that it is significant that their role model gives them that good example.

The fact is that parents can not order their children what music to listen to and who to look up to. But they do wish that their idol is a good example to them. And sadly, with her current behavior, Miley Cyrus has a really very bad influence.

A seventeen year old wearing short shorts and dressing slutty is not surprising she is SEVENTEEN NOT eleven. I think she is a best role model of all the Disney stars becasue she shows the world that she isn't perfect and that she is a human being with flaws like everyone else. She was never meant for 6 year olds to being with, Hannah Montana's target audience was 10 . Look outside your window she is doing what other children are doing Personally I think Miley Cyrus is the LEAST of our worries! . Videos now are all about sex and drugs this is not Mileys fault. It is more societys fault then everything else you cant blame Miley for this.If anything, Miley Cyrus is a good influence on teenagers. While her songs and videos may have inappropriate material for young children, they have valuable life lessons for teenagers. Her whole new image is teaching teenagers to choose their own path in life, rather than other people choosing it for them. Miley Cyrus isn"t a bad influence; she"s just making her own choices in life. She's not because she is just a teenager. A lot of teenagers do this kind of stuff, and worse. They are just saying she's worse just because she is famous... The bad influences should be the parents of the kids for finding those pictures on the internet. They just should not care what she does like really its her life, she apologized now get over it.

Miley is not a bad influence.
Debate Round No. 2

Let us begin this round with saying that we are not here to debate who is the worst influence or whatnot. There are other music singers who write songs portraying the fact that they aren't perfect. Those singers can sing just as good as Miley does but in a more appropriate manner. Some non-biased influential celebrities are : Oprah Winfrey, Steven Speilberg, Stephen Hawking, Bill Cosby, Marcus Mumford lead singer/songwriter of folk-rock band Mumford & Sons and the list go on. These here are 100% non biased and taken from a real hall of record of the most influential celebrities and singers (since Miley is also an actress). Just because she is trying to show the world that she's imperfect doesn't make her a good influence. It may in some aspects. However, we need to look at the qualities Miley Cyrus has and scope out why she is to be a good influence if she were one.
* Miley is a frequent Marijuana user * following facts are cited from resource
"She is doing what other children are doing"
So what are other children doing? Well, more than 12 percent of eighth graders and 36 percent of seniors at public and private schools around the country said they had smoked marijuana in the past year. About 60 percent of high school seniors said they did not view regular marijuana use as harmful. 6.5 percent of high schools smoke marijuana daily. Studies show that the concentration of THC in marijuana, its psychoactive ingredient, has tripled since the early 1990s, and Dr. Volkow said there was concern that the rising use and increased potency could affect the likelihood of car accidents and could lower school performance. "What is most worrisome is that we"re seeing high levels of everyday use of marijuana among teenagers," Dr. Volkow said. "That is the type that"s most likely to have negative effects on brain function and performance."
IMMEDIATE EFFECTS- include rapid heart beat, disorientation, lack of physical coordination, often followed by depression or sleepiness. Some users suffer panic attacks or anxiety. But wait, theres more. The drug can affect more than your physical health. Studies in Australia in 2008 linked years of heavy marijuana use to brain abnormalities. Other studies show that the mental functions of people who have smoked a lot of marijuana tend to be diminished. The THC in cannabis disrupts nerve cells in the brain affecting memory. When a woman is expecting a baby, there is a 95% chance that the baby will have hereditary effects. In conclusion to this quality, saying that what she is doing is what most kids are doing is actually false. Yes, we do have millions of marijuana users, but the amount of teens/kids who aren't involved with that is bigger. My opponent has done little research. I both disagree and agree with "It is more societies fault than everything else, you can't blame Miley for this." Forget about the word "society". I believe that it is an overused statement and misthrown concept. The culture we have right now, in the PRESENT does not make people feel good about themselves. And one must be strong enough if the culture doesn't work. & if the culture doesn't work, don't buy it. This here is an axiom. One can learn to develop there own culture-long before you can blame "society" because the world is very very old. 4.54 billion years to be exact. You can't blame your parents or guardians for raising you and bringing you up in this era, that's just how it is. We humans, have to adapt by either A.) following what's morally wrong or B.) What's in style or C.) Making your life healthy, wealthy, and wise by making good descions. Or in my words, being smart. Develop your own culture and don't blame society because when we think of society we instantly think of all it's flaws. But it's really how we look at it. Develop your own culture, walk with friends, dance to music in a church, start a project where poor people can receive mental health services, read books to get new ideas, keep up with old friends, write letters to distant friends, take more time eating and looking at nature and waste on time in front of TV sitcoms or "Movies of the Week". Create your own cocoon of human activities-conversation, interaction, affection- and fill your life like an overflowing soup bowl because so many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.
"Her whole new image...."
Miley Cyrus tried marijuana when she was 16 while trying to get Joe Jonas to try some as well. These kinds of facts aren't even relevant anymore compared to her most of her actions now. She never really changed. I mean I guess she grew up faster than most because well she does live in Hollywood, I'd assume so. Most of us can infer that Miley took a bold move shortly after her breakup with co-star Liam Hemsworth. Whatever happened, happened. The past is certainty in the past but it's clear that whatever did happen impacted young Miley so much that she needed a brand new look that truly reflected her personality because for years, she had been hiding it off camera. That is the sad reality for anyone who grew up watching her Disney show, looking up to her, including me. Some people are shocked and agree that she is a bad influence others love her new image and support her head on. But let us continue.
Now, that was just one quality Miley possessed. But what are the qualities of influence?
7. They value education and believe it is key to the future. These influential folks place a high value on education. Most of them are college educated and want the same for their children. They believe it is key to the "good life" and realizing dreams.
8. They demand a job that is interesting, enjoyable and contributes to our world. They want a job that"s defined by 3 criteria: interesting to perform, enjoyable to them, and one that benefits or adds value to society at large. Work must benefit others, not just generate a profit.
9. They are visionaries, and keepers of society"s high ideals. They possess a vision of tomorrow and it helps them maintain hope. They tend to dream, and hold fast to "society"s"highest ideals and values. People lean on them to remind others of the big picture.
10. They feel they are responsible to their communities and the world around them. Far and away, these influentials are most likely to feel responsible to their communities. They cannot just "live and let live." They believe they are accountable to others.
11. They define success as loving and being loved by their family. Along with their spiritual beliefs, they define success not with money, but as loving their spouse and kids. They want to "win at home" before trying to accomplish something on the job.
Let me ask you the obvious question. As a leader " do you possess these qualities? If you are an emerging leader " are you building these in your life? These are not necessarily the characteristics that automatically make a person highly influential, but the vast majority of the most influential citizens of our country carry these virtues. It can"t be just a coincidence. I believe they explain part of the reason others listen to them. May you become a person of influence yourself. It is natural to want influence. Therefore people should focus on following WELL.
"A lot of teenagers do these kinds of stuff and worse"
This statement is poorly written. What kinds of stuff? My opponent has no resources and is therefore unreliable.
"They are just saying she is worse because she is famous"
Wrong, anything this shocking would have obviously made the paper. Wrong again, SHE chose her life. She chose to be a celebrity henceforth, no private life. Nobody is saying she is worse. It depends on what new article your reading, many can be biased and some like mine are solidly based on FACTS. Nowhere have I said that she is a bad PERSON. Just a bad influence is all. I'm preety sure by now everyone has seen the new Miley somehow. At the supermarket, at CVS. She's frequently on the front cover. Do not go blaming parents.
"They should just not care what she does like really its her life, she apologized, now get over it."
Your wrong yet again. Most don't care in fact nobody cares what anyone does with there life unless your a family member or someone significantly close. It called Hollywood gossip and sometimes paparazzi pay celebrities for a scandal just to make people talk so how much of what we hear is actually true? Remember when David Guetta faked his own death? Did she really apologize? Where was I for that one? Here you are blindly contradicting your side of the debate. It's like saying ice cream is delicious but it has tons of sugar and can cause diabetes if you eat excessively each day. My friend, how can I get over something I was never worried about in the beginning? It happens to most celebrities.

Due to time restrictions, I have to end my arguments here.

I would certainly shift the "blame of bad influence" unto society, rather than Mikey Cyrus, which compels me to accept this debate.
