Introduction
This debate is a competition of music compositional skills. Here I intend to isolate technical acuity of the composition as a key area of the debate. To this end, I desire that voters on this debate use the following criterion to distribute points in a weighted fashion:

Voting
S/G (1 point): Subjective desirability -Which composer created pieces that were, overall, more enjoyable to listen to?
Conduct (1 point): Which composer had superior thematic relevance?
Arguments (3 points): Which pieces displayed superior creativity and skill?
Sources (2 points): Which composer displayed greater fluency in form and technical structure of the piece?

Structure
This debate will involve 2 contrasting compositions. The first is to be presented in the form of sheet music written for a single instrument. The second is a digitally produced piece made via any digital audio workstation. Round 1 is for acceptance only. Round 2 will start with Pro presenting item one, followed by Con's item 1. Round 3 is for the next piece. Round 4 is a back up round in case anything bad happens in a previous round. We won't use that round if all goes well.

Themes
Each round will also have a specific theme. For this debate, the theme for the first round is 'Stars,' and the theme for the second round is 'Dance.' How you interpret these words is up to you, within reason. When you post your piece, you must also choose a specific subtheme that encapsulates the piece you made and more accurately describes your interpretation of the grand theme. For example, I may write a moving piece for a flute and make my subtheme 'glitter.' This better describes the piece and also explains how my piece links to the theme of 'stars.'

Adjudication
Please only vote if you are able to use the criterion provided. This will necessitate that you read and understand music and have a grasp of some music theory. You will also need to be able to listen to music pieces hosted externally from this site.

Copyrights
All work must be original and created specifically for this debate. You may submit work you've done previously if it fits the themes, however, I would prefer the pieces to be made with the intent of this competition in mind. When submitting audio, you must acknowledge any samples, soundfonts, clips or sounds which are not your property. It is recommended that you create your own sounds or samples for this debate. Acknowledging copyrights when using sounds which are not your own is perfectly acceptable.

Additional notes
> Attempt to upload sheet music as pictures to this debate. Permalinks must also be provided.
> When uploading music, embed using youtube and use a second source as a permalink
> Your permalink for your audio must store the music in a lossless format, such as .wav
> Do not use temporary file hosting services or data storage sites
> If you would like to accept this debate, please indicate interest in the comments or via pm.

I accept.

I haven't forayed very far in composition, and I'm very excited to put my hands to it. I spent all of last night having a blast putting some tunes together, and I hope Smithers will be enjoying this as much as I will.

A preemptive thank you to Smithers for setting this up. Let's have some fun! :D

That concludes the debate.

This here is a link to a polished, downloadable version of Starlight Sonata, but use the original piece for adjudication: https://www.dropbox.com...

Thanks to my very competent opponent, Beginner for contributing such fabulous creations.

Hope you enjoyed the music!

Just to clarify again, the first round should be judged based on musicality and compositional skill rather than audio. Audio judging should only be placed for the second round piece. With that said, here's the musescore to my piece in R1 if you're curious and either not voting or have already voted: https://musescore.com...

Anyway, this has been one of the more enjoyable debates I've had in a while.
Thanks to Smithereens again for hosting this and thanks everyone else for viewing/listening.

I see Smithereens has closed her account. Too bad. I found her debates to be very interesting.

Eyyy maybe I could. I'm actually going to go to a game develoment association some time in the next couple weeks. Usually I'd try to get into the coding aspects of development, but maybe I could pitch in to one of the music teams. :>

your music is ideal RPG material. Especially the R3 piece. You could even sell it to them imo XD

I thought Undertale was pretty retro. Yeah.

having music that sounds nice is important imo. Especially if it's just to share with the community. You're a performer and you represent the DDO musicians whenever you play so it's a good idea to always sound your best.

I don't think it's that bad, but I can make it worse, lol...

Anyway, the point isn't really to win, it's just to share whatever music you can with the community here. P:

Shoot. I just realized I could delete everything after measure 38 and put a repeat sign around the whole piece instead of writing a whole extra 8 measures. Welp. Too late. What a terribly jarring ending (forgot to mp the last segment too)
