NATO is an unnecessary alliance as it was formed as a defensive military bloc against the Soviet Union during the Cold War yet now it has become an offensive tool and has only caused chaos and hate. It was only protecting Europe and the US yet now the United States military is the strongest and most advanced in the world, and although the European Union is not a country it has the second largest military force. As well the large military power in Europe and North America, the US, France and the UK all posess nuclear weapons and the second and latter and Eu member states, so the continents are quite secure from any foreign military threat.

The NATO alliance now only serves as a way to spread US hegemony, their dominance in the Middle East and Asia is growing larger. As an Australian I am shocked by the fact that we are allowing 1,000 US Marines to train in Darwin, Northern Territory, there is no benefit for Australia because it makes us more of a target and increases US hegemony in the Asia-Pacific.

What I am trying to get is that while relations between the US and China are strengthening there is still a power struggle, with China's growing influence in Africa and as they attempt to spread through Asia, the US are looking to prevent this. So all NATO is being used for is for the gain of the United States as they are losing more power to China.

Rebuttal:

"NATO has only caused chaos and hate"

I ask my opponent to reference some example, this is an empty statement and I
can't hit a shadow.

But, assuming that Pro fails to provide an example, I would like to reference
the Libyan Civil war. I will give Pro time to formulate a statement for me to
attack.

Not to sound like a nationalistic bigot, what's wrong with spreading US
influence? I would argue that it is beneficial, creating stronger international
ties that are mutually beneficial.

And what are you suggesting? That we surrender to Chinese superiority? Your
arguments are so abstract I have little to combat.

General Case:

NATO is a force for good, helping with humanitarian aid and helping
maintain stability. I will elaborate when my opponent gives me something to
debate.

I would agree with the resolution if it was actually a resolution.

What are you trying to argue? You need to write a better resolution such as, "Resolved: The current organization of NATO should be dissolved" or "Resolved: The organization NATO should be abolished (dissolved)." Dissolved would be a better word than abolished.
