Year long school is beneficial to students because they will remember more.

Like everyone, students need a break. Besides, our school schedule has worked fine for decades, why fix what isn't broken?

First its important to understand that year long school could mean several different types of schedules. It could be 3 weeks on and 1 week off throughout the year with a few longer duration breaks during the holidays, spring, and summer. Also you said something that needed to be defined. Broken is something that is not working. Students in the US have shown to be behind many nations so it is reasonable to say that it is broken or at least breaking down compared to other nations. There are successful students in every school, but more could be successful schedules were adjusted to allow less time to forget lessons. In addition, it doesn't work too well to review last year's content for up to a few weeks in the current one.

Almost every American school that has tried year round schedule has ultimately changed back. Why? Because neither the teachers nor the students liked year round schedule.

Like I said, our school schedule has worked fine for decades, there is no need to change it.

According to research done by Reed, also by Cornells university lab it was found that holidays increase productivity, so we can't rule out summer break completely. Besides summer break is not given for any festival, it is given in order to save students from the scorching heat of summer.

So if we want our students to be safe and have better efficiency, we must keep summer break as it is.

To me it seems that there shouldn't be year long school. I did all sorts of extra programs during the summer, like go to science camps and do some research in a lab. Things like that require a dedicated period of time of atleast a month or two or three months, which would be hard if everyone had to go to school with small breaks in the middle.
