By God we understand what most people understand by it, creator of the universe, etcetera. We are not talking about the word "God" but about what it represents.

1) An atheist cannot prove the existance of god because he thinks (in fact he knows) that God does not exist , but as an idea in people's minds.

2) An agnostic thinks that it could be either way, but there are no sufficient data available to prove either possibility.

3) A theist holds that God cannot be proven because all the issue is a matter of faith. If a theist believer had the ability to prove that God exist, then his faith would undermine his religion. Therefore it is impossible for a theist to prove the existance of God.

4) Those who have never heard of the idea of a God (assume a single person on an island lives his whole life in solitude), cannot prove his existance, this should be obvious. You cannot prove something of which you yourself have no knowledge about.

5) Any person is either atheist, theist, agnostic, or does not know anything about God. There are no other options, this leaves nobody with the ability to prove God's existance.

Many thanks to my opponent for starting this debate.

I will wait for my opponent to post his arguments, bit I'm going to make some comments to his starting arguments.

All his points are basically examples to his last point which is...
5) Any person is either atheist, theist, agnostic, or does not know anything about God. There are no other options, this leaves nobody with the ability to prove God's existance.
He clearly states that it leaves no one to prove the existance of god, but he has not yet proven that what god represents really doesn't exist. The word god is defined as the Supreme Being considered with reference to a particular attribute (http://dictionary.reference.com...). The god or what it represents is a belief, you have to believe it or not. "God" is an idea from the people, and it is proven through faith.

This debate gives the pro side an advandge, because really no one can prove that god existed. But I prove that god exists through this debate (http://www.debate.org...). It is a matter of faith.

Thank you.

"He clearly states that it leaves no one to prove the existance of god, but he has not yet proven that what god represents really doesn't exist. "
>We are not discussing whether God exists or not so this argument is null, and even if we were, I don't need to prove that something doesn't exist, especially when that something doesn't exist, like , God. If somebody proves that God exists, then I would be in a position to bring evidence that his proof is false. You shool learn what a "burden of proof" is and keep in mind what the topic is when debating something.
" "God" is an idea from the people, and it is proven through faith."
> Doesn't matter whose idea is, it is believed to be true through faith, never proven. If you claim such a thing you got a really tough job ahead of you. Be my guest and present the case that you prove that god exists through faith.
faith: "religion: a strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control human destiny;"
Source: http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu...
This argument is debunked in absence of any proof through faith for God's existence.
"This debate gives the pro side an advandge, because really no one can prove that god existed. But I prove that god exists through this debate (http://www.debate.org......). It is a matter of faith"
Contradiction 1. "Really no one can prove that god existed" then "I prove that god exists" If god exists,he is infinite in time so he has always existed. same evidence that show how he exists would prove that he existed.
Contradiction 2. This debate gives the pro side an advantage, [...] but I prove that pro is wrong so I win.If you win then stop complaining about pro's advantage.
"I prove that god exists through this debate"http://www.debate.org...
And you show us a debate where you are LOSING IT. this only proves that you know how to make fun of
yourself. And yea, that JC didn't rise from the dead, lol

Faith does not prove a god exist; it merely shows how fragile humans are to delusion.

Read Job 38, God was telling Job things he couldn't know.

Job 38:25 Who has cleft a channel for the flood, or a way for the thunderbolt.

If you had a highspeed camera you could see a negative charge come down from the cloud and then the bolt rush up it. They didn't have highspeed camera, how would he know?

Job 38:16 Have you entered into the springs of the sea Or walked in the recesses of the deep?

We know (and just now found out) that there are springs in the sea underwater and there are recesses in the ocean, but Job never went underwater, they didn't have submarines.

Job 38:30 Water becomes hard like stone and the surface of the deep is imprisoned.

Job never went to the arctic ocean, but this happens there. The ice cap covers the ocean.

Job 38:35 Can you send forth lightnings that they may go and say to you, 'here we are?'

Telephones? Put that on you 3 by 5 card when you die.

Is this your way of excusing yourself from a rebuttal? Very disappointing.

First, you chose a topic which is most likely to be one-sided - hoping that you could easily win, and you did. Congratulations. Second, when you encountered a comment that is not on your side, you brand it as bad argument. Then, a rebuttal comment and you brand it as a semantical trick.

Very childish. By the way, I assure you, there is no trick here. ABRAKADABRA. hahahaha.

This is just a semantical trick, nothing more.

To prove is to establish beyond doubt is not absolute to everybody. Scientific facts can prove things and erase any and all doubts if and only if one fully understands the same. With that I mean, and maintain, that the level of proof varies and which is not the concern of the debate. For example: I can prove the existence of antimatter to a college student with science subjects but not to a layman. In that case, the presence of doubt was established.

The same is true with the Bible. With the Bible, one can prove, beyond doubt, the existence of God only to those who truly and fully understand the same but not to those who do not. In the pain of being repetitious, I reiterate that the absoluteness of the proof is not the concern of the debate. What is clear is that a proof to the existence of God can be presented - the effectiveness of which is, AGAIN, not the concern of the debate.
