Hi. In light of the recent news regarding North Korea, I see it fitting that there should be a debate on North Korea and it's role in the world. The full resolution for today's debate is

Resolved: On balance, North Korea is currently the largest threat to western interests.

Some Rules:
  1. No Counterplans or Ks
  2. Sources must be included in case.
  3. No new arguments in the final round, however new evidence may be presented to support previous arguments.
  4. Definitions may be presented by either side, but must be presented within the constructive.
  5. First Round is Acceptance and presentation of definitions by the affirmative only.
  6. As this is a Win or Lose voting system, spelling and grammar are not reasons enough to vote one way or the other.
  7. Acceptance of the debate is acceptance of the presented rules and resolution. No changes may be mad eto either within the debate.

I'm sorry this is so rushed I didn't have time for anything else.
===Negative Framework===
  • It is not the burden of the negative to prove that North Korea is not a threat. Rather, the Negative must simply prove that there exists a larger threat than North Korea.
  • We observe that the threat can be multi layered, and far reaching.
===Contention 1: Russia is a larger threat===
Russia, in the status quo, poses a significantly larger threat than North Korea. There are 2 reasons for this.

====Subpoint A: Russia's Military is significantly more powerful than North Korea's====
Russia's Military is significantly more threatening. Global Firepower reports that Russia's Military is larger than that of North Korea's. But North Korea is not only surpassed in terms of manpower, but is also surpassed in terms of it's nuclear arsenal. Bunnies Insider reports that in 2014 North Korea had 6-8 atomic weapons. Russia has over 8000. When Russia's atomic threat dwarfs that of North Korea's, and North Korea has a smaller land force, that alone is enough to warrant a negative ballot.

====Subpoint B: Russian Economic threat====
In the status quo, Russia is reported to have the 7th largest economy by the The World Factbook. North Korea doesn't even breach the top 100 and comes in at a mere 112th place. The Wall street journal reports that Russia continues to produce oil at record levels. This is a problem because The European Council on forgein relations reports that Europe, particularly the Baltic States, are nearly 100% directly or indirectly dependent on Russian energy.
