Humans have been purging resources ever since we were here. We have no other choice but Nuclear Fusion to get enough energy to survive. No doubt, scientists around the world have confirmed that by 2060 the resources will be finished and other renewable resources are unstable or not enough.

750 character limit...

Con claims we will need to develop nuclear fusion in order for the human race to survive. This is clearly false. The human race lived for over ~500,000 years without electricity. Even today, over 1.5 billion people have no access to electricity.[1] Electricity is a modern convenience that makes life easier, but is by no means necessary to the continued survival of our species.

Can you live without a mobile phone or a computer these days?
If there is no electricity, there'll be another world war, just with knives and forks!
Would anyone in their right minds want that? huh?
J.Kenyon

Con

Essentially, Pro's point is that electricity shortages would be inconvenient and could possibly lead to war. I don't dispute these facts, however none of this is relevant. My point stands that the human race could survive without electricity.

"Can you live without a mobile phone or a computer these days?"

Yes.

"If there is no electricity, there'll be another world war, just with knives and forks!"

Better than with tanks, planes, and machine guns.

"Would anyone in their right minds want that?"

Nope.

First of all, I would like say sorry to all voting and especially you, J. Kenyon for wasting an important round...
Nuclear fusion is very safe since it is not a chain reaction and the elements needed are basically lithium (which is abundant, one can find it in sea shore pebbles) and deuterium which is as abundant (in the sea water). It is also very cheap on a large scale, so most of the world will be able to afford electricity and the ones who wouldn't be able to... well the number will be minimal, a condition much better than what it is now; so the government can take are of them.

Pro claims that energy from fusion would be cheap, safe, and abundant. While I don't deny this, none of it is relevant. The resolution clearly states "Nuclear Fusion is the only way to produce enough energy for the human race survive." This is demonstrably false. Humans can live without electricity, albeit with some difficulty. Pro has not addressed this point, and consequently has failed to uphold his burden of proof.

Though Pro has clearly overestimated it's importance, I recently read an article about nuclear energy and my confidence in it has greatly increased. I also recently say a presentation by a chemist who has devised a way to greatly increase the efficiency of solar power. While I am still skeptical of wind and water power (both ecologically and economically) I think that solar power could be viable with improved materials.

The idea of using photons to generate power has at least one advantage: they are extremely abundant and will virtually never run out.

It is highly recommended that you increase that number.

Reasons for voting decision: Not much of a debate. Pro probably intended to debate "technological society is only possible ..." but that's not the resolution.

Reasons for voting decision: conduct for pros forfeit. con had a source and negated the resolution by showing that the human race could survive without access to natural resources.
