Nuclear power is the only viable energy source to replace fossil fuels on a time-scale that would prevent dangerous climate change.

1st Round: Make some brief initial points you wish to expand on later.

2nd Round: Expand on your points and address any of you opponents you choose in as much length as needed.

3rd Round: Rebuttal only address any points your opponent has made that you feel are inaccurate or misrepresented. Use as much length as required.

4th Round: Closing points, try to keep it brief or in bullet points to aid voting.

Intial points for nuclear power

        • Nuclear power is the only viable energy source to replace fossil fuels on a time-scale that would prevent dangerous climate change.
        • It is the safest form of power available across all sectors, even renewables.
        • Technological advancements / revisions mitigate the problem of nuclear weapons proliferation.
        • Waste storage is a problem for old fission reactors but good practice and storage methods can ensure safety.
        • New reactors that utilise alternative fission pathways almost eliminate long lived nuclear waste making it a 100 year problem not a 10000+ year problem.
        • Success in fusion is iminent and will only strengthen the argument for nuclear power.
        • Poor eductaion on the subject and misinformation from activists is responsible for the "dangerous" image attributed to nuclear power.
        • Terrorism is not a problem.
I look forward to an interesting debate :).

Nuclear Power is not a viable option for the future because of the risks shown in history and shown in the present.

-Nuclear power actually produces pollution, but not on the same level as Coal and Oil, this will only slow climate change, not make a dent in it.
-I strongly disagree with the argument that Nuclear Power is safer than renewables. The Chernobyl and the Fukoshima disasters showed that while a Nuclear disaster may be relatively rare, it is still possible. In contrast, there have not been any significant disasters, if any at all, with Wind, Solar, and Geothermal power.
-Technological Advancements will not eliminate the desire for such weapons that certain countries may posses
-Waste Storage does not eliminate the danger of Radioactive waste, Illegal Dumping is a dangerous and severe problem and was shown in Italy from Criminal Organizations in the 1980s
-New Reactors most notably reduce the amount of waste, not the severity
-Commercial Fusion power will probably not be available until after 2050 or longer, fusion will not downplay the risks that current Fission Reactors pose
-I don't believe poor education is the case, Many people don't wish to risk a possible Nuclear Disaster even if the possibilities are slim.
-The mishandling of Nuclear Waste evident in Italy showed that criminals and terrorists can use the harmful products of this power to cause harm or cause health risks. Fires could case a huge problem, terrorists can easily utilize that point to cause more harm.
-Human Error such as the incompetence of knowledge of sea water and Nuclear Plants was shown in Fukoshima. This is a huge, and largely unavoidable problem, the risks are much larger of Human Error in Nuclear Power than in Renewables.

While Nuclear Power may have benefits and may be better than Fossil Fuels, it should be avoided because of the risks. Renewable Energy seems like a more viable and productive alternative to both fossil fuels and Nuclear Energy.

Reasons for voting decision: This might have been a good debate; too bad Pro vanished. Con was off to a shaky start, providing no supporting evidence for any of his claims, but Pro gave no evidence either.
