In a recent interview with Amazon, President Obama decided to discuss how children are being wrongfully motivated to become successful adults; and in doing so, he alluded to celebrities Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. He stated "When children once aimed for a good home, a good job, and the possibility of higher education, today's youngsters are exposed to such wealth in the form of celebrities' lifestyles that everything else seems smaller by comparison. Kids weren't mentioning everyday what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success". This assertion sparked controversy and enragement in many people, including Kim Kardashian"s mother Kris Jenner, which she made clear in her daytime talk show. This quote by President Obama is worthy of discussion due to the fact that Obama profiled other media figures in a negative manner, offending them and their supporters.
While President Obama made perfectly valid points on children striving for unreachable amounts of wealth and fame, it was not necessary to bring other celebrities to the forefront of the discussion. Obama said that kids were wrongfully thinking that Kim and Kanye"s life were the "mark of success"; but who is he to say what is the mark of success is? Kim Kardashian alone owns multiple clothing lines, co-owns multiple stores, and is worth approximately 40 million dollars. In the eyes of many, this would be considered successful. Obama also thought it was wrong that children knew where Kanye West was vacationing, but Obama himself has spent more tax payer dollars to go on vacations with his family than any other president in history; making his statement very hypocritical. The President also has made multiple speeches about bullying, for example, he said "Bulllying is wrong. It's destructive and we can all prevent it". However, many consider his mocking of the success and fame of Kim and Kanye a form of bullying in its own; which is a worse example set for children than the fame of the Kardashians.
President Obama is in a very high state of media power, and he should not use it as a weapon to attack the Kardashians. His speech about children striving to become better adults was valid and well stated until he had to compare what he thinks is success to two individuals whom were completely unrelated to the topic. People everywhere should take a stand against celebrities of any kind making fun of or fighting with other celebrities in the media; it is immature and a bad example set for children.
P.S. Sorry if this sounds speechy, this is for school and I decided I might as well put it on here.

I am now accepting your debate.

Your argument insinuates that President Obama is insulting Kim Kardashian and Kanye West by using them as examples that they now mark success in children. You also seem to be implying that Kim Kardashian can represent success. You also are attacking Obama for stating that kids want to know where Kanye is vacationing when Obama also vacations. Lastly you have stated that Obama has made it clear that bullying is wrong yet he is doing a similar thing by attacking Kim Kardashian and Kanye publicly when he is an position of power.

Rebuttals:
"Obama sad that kids were wrongfully thinking that Kim and Kanye's life were the "mark of success...Kardashian alone...is worth approximately 40 million dollars" (I omit certain parts to keep the quote concise)

Obama is simply stating his opinion on what he feels influence children. Who is he to express his opinion on what children view as success? Well he personally has two daughters, he once was a child, and he has visited many schools full of children. So it is not beyond him to understand what the state of mind of children once were and what they are now. Current popular music that children listen to always glorify the concept of making it and being rich so once again, it is not out of place for Obama to say what he feels represents success.

Rebuttal:
" Obama also thought it was wrong that children knew where Kanye West was vacationing, but Obama himself has spent more tax payer dollars to go on vacations with his family than any other president in history; making his statement very hypocritical"

First of all your implying that Obama is a bad person person because he spends "tax dollars on traveling". Obama does not run a company of any sort and does not generate revenue. Therefore his salary is tax dollars. Should we also say, Obama spends tax dollars to buy his kids clothes? No because he is payed by tax dollars like every other president. He has a right to spend his salary on vacationing like any other citizen. Please cite the evidence that supports Obama has spent more money on vacations than any other president.

Obama is only commenting on Kanye West's vacationing because he is discussing how people pay for more attention to his vacations than they do for their success.

Rebuttal:
" The President also has made multiple speeches about bullying, for example, he said "Bullying is wrong. It's destructive and we can all prevent it". However, many consider his mocking of the success and fame of Kim and Kanye a form of bullying in its own; which is a worse example set for children than the fame of the Kardashians."

The last point says that Obama has made many statements saying that bullying is wrong but by using Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in his argument in a negative way, he is also being a bully.

Merriam Webster Definition of Bully:
"a blustering browbeating person; especially : one habitually cruel to others who are weaker" (if you don't like this definition we can invent a new one)

Obama is not attempting to stifle, weaken, or Kim and Kanye. He is exemplifying them in his argument that they are looked to up by children and that he doesn't believe they should be looked up. He could have named anybody but randomly chose those who felt had the most notoriety in media.

Therefore I feel as though my opponent puts malice and ill-intent in Obama' s speech that was not intended.

It is now your turn! :)
