Obama is the progressive agent of change, no John Edwards.

John Edwards is the change candidate of 2008. His positions on trade, on the American economy, and on the corruption and disconnect between Washington and the American people are right on the money. He is one of the few candidates who actually addresses the issue of poverty in the United States, and he does not address it like an abstract issue. To John Edwards, poverty is very real, and while the media and the GOP likes to poke at his house, his own personal success has not made him forget the struggles of others. Most polls indicate that the American public thinks more a long the lines, issue by issue, with someone like Dennis Kucinich, but candidates like him never get any traction. John Edwards on the other hand nearly won Iowa, and got another 17 percent in New Hampshire. His name is too large for major media to simply ignore him, though they do try. With a 70 page plan already composed and ready to build 'One America', Edwards has time and time again forced the hand of Obama and Clinton to present a plan to the American people. John Edwards took the lead in saying no to Fox News, and refusing to participate in their media events, and was then followed by the whole Democratic field. Truly progressive, John Edwards is the best hope to put someone in to the White House who is on the side of the American people, and is ready to fight for us.

First off, I don't understand your choice of wording in this debate, it is very confusing, from reading your opening argument, it should simply be called "John Edwards is the progressive agent of change" for you mention Obama only once.

There is one simple reason why John Edwards as much as he tries, cannot be the progressive agent of change. Too many republicans hate him. Personally I like him alot.

Edwards is a Dem. candidate who lacks support from Rep. -NORMAL
Obama is a Dem. candidate who has influential support from Rep. -DIFFERENT

Edwards is white: -NORMAL
Obama is black: -DIFFERENT

Edwards's father was Christian. -NORMAL
Obama's father was Muslim. -DIFFERENT

Edwards is subconsciously aware of America today: -NORMAL
Obama is subconsciously aware of America tomorrow. -DIFFERENT

Those are the face values of each candidate in relation to normal and new, or change.

John Edwards basis his plan of change around "two Americas". the poor America and the rich America. he basis his campaign around it. the truth is that it is not something to base a campaign around. there will always be poor people, there will always be mega rich people. YOU CAN'T fix that. It is actually Barack Obama who has the most simple plan to help the middle and lower class
by taking away the cap on income tax. families are only taxed for their first 100,000$ made. only 6% of the population makes more than that. therefore by removing the cap, an certain percentage of lets say 8,000,000 dollars is taken at the same percentage of someone who makes 50,000 a year. by doing this, we could have national health care by 2012.

The biggest difference is this, John Edwards is old school, Barack Obama is new school. both are pissed off about the way things are right now, but Edwards was trained in old politics and Obama wrote his own rules for politics.

Sorry about the wording, I realize it's not very clear.

By progressive change, I don't mean putting up a different colored Bill Clinton, and looking at what Obama's policies would be (minus cutting the cap) he's almost lock-step with Clinton.

Obama has made very few promises, and I don't think its wise to expect anything from someone who doesn't make it clear what they're going to do. Edwards has a 70 page document that outlines his entire plan towards building 'one America'. While it's probably true that creating a truly 'one' America is impossible, John Edwards is not saying that there won't be rich and poor people. He simply wants to change what the definition of poor is in the US.

Poverty being the root of the majority of our social problems, it is essential to bringing real change in America.

In terms of foreign policy, Edwards was the first one to be clear that the 'War on Terror' was flawed by design, and that more positive intervention (ie building schools in poor countries) by the US to combat the negative image we have in the world is key. Edwards argues that the reason why terrorism is such a problem in the world is because of all the poverty that people see and live in. People feel hopeless, desperate and angry, and the US is an easy country to blame. Edward's attitude about fighting terrorism is truly different.

Obama is an African-American, and had a Muslim father, but this doesn't mean that he's going to be different. In fact, Obama has picked a team of foreign policy advisers that are all linked to very things that got us in this mess in the first place. This is from a report that came on Amy Goodman's show a little while ago:

"Obama's top adviser is Zbigniew Brzezinski. Brzezinski gave an interview to the French press a number of years ago where he boasted about the fact that it was he who created the whole Afghan jihadi movement, the movement that produced Osama bin Laden. And he was asked by the interviewer, "Well, don't you think this might have had some bad consequences?" And Brzezinski replied, "Absolutely not. It was definitely worth it, because we were going after the Soviets. We were getting the Soviets.

and....

Another key Obama adviser, Anthony Lake, he was the main force behind the US invasion of Haiti in the mid-Clinton years during which they brought back Aristide essentially in political chains, pledged to support a World Bank/IMF overhaul of the economy, which resulted in an increase in malnutrition deaths among Haitians and set the stage for the current ongoing political disaster in Haiti."

Imperial Democrats.

Edwards continues to take most of his advice from his wife.

Edwards also usually tops Obama and Clinton when polled against leading GOP candidates.

Lastly, what does Obama offer? Hope? Hope for what? What is he going to 'bring us together' to do? He's not clear at all in terms of what his stated goals are. Edwards' plan may not be practical, but if just a handful of his proposed policies would do incredible good for our country, and at least an attempt at combating poverty in the US (again, if you count LBJ) by our president would only benefit America.

I want someone to explain to me exactly which election DIDN'T represent "change". If we have resorted to a one word reason for voting for someone I will be quite disappointed in my fellow countryman.

Kucinich is the only real Lib- I agree

If I was a dem , I would vote for him, hands down.

He has GUTS- he will go on Hannity's program and other conservative shows and vociferously defend his liberal / progessive stances - gotta give him credit for that

Unfortunately , the machine keeps the real types out of power with the money and media thing (Ron Paul too)

It is an interesting year nonetheless-

Kucinich is the only true progressive remaining in the hunt for the Presidency. The corporate America and its media do what they can to silence and discredit him.

I may be Republican but I actually liked Clinton and would even vote for Edwards possibly maybe even Hilary Clinton. I would never vote for Obama though (and lucky for me the majority of NH felt that way too , lets hope that trend continues. )Obama just repeats himself, thinks he knows what is right for the troops. he has no experience. He has shown himself to be unpatriotic on a few occasions.

Too bad you're not the only voter then, eh?
Also, I can see by your support of GWB that your statement is profoundly true.

I would rather see a monkey get the presidency than Obama.
