I am going to defend the resolution : On balance, GMO foods are good for people. Let me start by defining a few words.
GMO- a genetically modified organism
WFP- World Food Programme
My first contention is solvency. Many people around the world do not have enough food to eat. According to the WFP, about 842 million people around the world go hungry every night. Also, out of that number, poor nutrition causes about half the deaths (45%) in children under 5. That is nearly 3.1 million deaths per year. At this rate, it is known that a child dies every 2 seconds.
Plan- Growing GMO crops will solve for world hunger.
GMO crops have a number of advantages over traditionally grow ones. 1) GMOs are much more resistant to pests and harsh weather. This can be very useful as crops can be grown even in areas with a lot of weather phenomenon. 2) GMO crops yield a much higher amount thank traditionally grown ones. This leads to more efficient use of land and also more food for the population. 3) GMO crops have a longer shelf life thus making it easier to ship food across countries to remote areas in need.
