For a research paper, my topic is the gap between wages of men and women. I personally think equal pay would be ideal. As of 2013, full time working women earned about $706 weekly, while men earned $860. What is your opinion on the gap?

Hi Maddiem214 I am against any government legislation that forces women's pay.
I'm assuming when you posted a weekly wage comparison that the statistic was for annual pay divided by 52 weeks.

My reasons against "equal pay"
1. Women are more than capable of choosing their employer contracts, and to suggest an equal pay system is to undermine their intelligence.

2." According to Andrew Beveridge, a Professor of Sociology at Queens College, between 2000 and 2005, young women in their twenties earned more than their male counterparts in some large urban centers, including Dallas (120%), New York (117%), Chicago, Boston, and Minneapolis".

3. Women who earn less than men seem to be over 30, the time at which most women have children. Earning less would account for time taken off for pregnancy and looking after kids when they are sick. Also hiring and training new staff to account for a woman's maternity leave absence is very expensive.

4. If your in favour of equal pay, surely then you would be in favour of equal pay for Hispanic and black people. Since they too have large wage gaps. if you are a Hispanic man 65.9%.
But does this mean every employer is racist and sexist. Or is it more of a representation of skills and output value. To say women generally have less output value is no more discriminatory than to say that if you are Hispanic you are more likely to speak Spanish.

5. If women are truly sick of their pay, they should find employment elsewhere or start up their own business.

6. A gender equal pay law would mean less female employment as Females would become too expensive.
