Many people do not realize how healthy orange juice is. It offers consumers a great source of Vitamin C (1), lowers cholesterol (1), helps prevent cancer and boosts the immune system (2), and most importantly, orange juice can give one radiant skin (3), which we all want. What is there not to love about orange juice? The pulp is also an add-on to those who like to have a little chew while drinking it. The pulp can also help with things, like: being a good source of minerals and vitamins, be anti-cancer potential, and offer pectin (4).

Defined Terms
Pectin- The thick, fibrous attribute of pulp is derived from high concentrations of a dietary fiber called pectin. Pectin helps lower cholesterol, ease digestion and improve the removal of fat and harmful chemicals from the body.

Most People believe that because Oranges are natural and healthy, then orange juice is also natural and healthy, however, this is not true.(1) Orange Juice is a liquid Carbohydrate, carbohydrates are significant in weight alterations. Often times the answer to weight loss is a reduction in Carbohydrates, especially in liquid Carbohydrates as they have a much more measurable effect on fat gain as compared to solid carbohydrates. (2)Orange juice is also high in fructose, which serves as an alternative for sugar. A study conducted by the Institute of Food Research and highlighted by TIME magazine showed that the consumption of Fructose resulted in liver damage as well as the formation of Fat deposits.(3) The consumption of Orange Juice is also responsible for the decay of tooth enamel as Orange juice has a low pH.

DEFINED TERMS
-Carbohydrate-any of a large group of organic compounds occurring in foods and living tissues and including sugars, starch, and cellulose
-Fructose-a hexose sugar found especially in honey and fruit.
-Enamel- one of the four major tissues that make up the tooth in humans

Carbohydrates may affect one's weight, but it is dependent on how one's body is used (what they do physically). If they exercise, then any carbohydrate is very beneficial for one as they fuel muscles and help them grow and become more muscular (1). Some more reasons are: they better athletic performance, fasten one's recovery, reduce cancer and cardiovascular disease, improve mood and sleep, and help with fat loss (if exercise is present) (2). There is also a study done at Purdue University by DiMeglio (doctor of pharmacy/podiatry) and Mattes (registered dietitian) of June 24, 2000 that tells, "[The] study indicates that liquid carbohydrate promotes positive energy balance, whereas a comparable solid carbohydrate elicits precise dietary compensation. Increased consumption of energy-yielding fluids may promote positive energy balance" (3).
Even though fructose can be used as an alternative sugar, it helps consumers with food and how it is. It adds texture, helps keep color, maintains quality and enhances flavor in many foods and beverages. Those are real value-adds. At the same time, HFCS helps food and beverage (4). As I have stated before, one's intake of these products most likely will not harm them as long as they are active physically and care for themselves.

First of all, in order for a person to lose weight and drink juice as a part of their daily diet, the person must also exercise routinely, for many this is inconvenient and excessively time consuming. To depend on orange juice as the number one source of energy throughout out the day is irrational and unhealthy. According to an article published on June 29, 2017, "One major side effect of drinking too much orange juice throughout the day is inconsistent energy levels." The inconsistency in energy is due to the fact that drinking orange juice increases a person's blood sugar. After drinking a glass of orange juice a person's blood sugar level increases dramatically and the energy level is high. However, shortly after the sugar level begins to drop and the energy of that person greatly decreases.

It is understanding that exercise can be time consuming, especially when one has so much to do, like me. There are other ways to combat this issue, like: multi-tasking (doing whatever it is you need to do in an exercising way), walking to work if the location is not far, working out at work when there is downtime and you are in a safe environment, parking far away from where one needs to go, or even taking stairs instead of elevators (1). Orange juice may cause inconsistent energy levels if draken everyday, but if consumed every other day or once every three days, it has various benefits. Some of these benefits include: the prevention of kidney stones, reduce levels of "bad" cholesterol, reduces cellular oxidation, offers lots of vitamin C, helps the digestive system regulate, and helps with diarrhea and constipation (2). Orange juice tends to have many more benefits than disadvantages when one looks at the juice as a thing to help prevent medical issues from occurring.

Defined Terms
Cellular Oxidation- the process of oxidation in the human body damages cell membranes and other structures including cellular proteins, lipids and DNA. When oxygen is metabolised, it creates 'free radicals' which steal electrons from other molecules, causing damage.
Constipation- a condition in which there is difficulty in emptying the bowels, usually associated with hardened feces.

The Idea that orange juice is healthy is heavily dependent on factors that limit the truth to be only somewhat true. If a specific set of variables does not exist then the statement that "Orange juice is healthy" is no longer true, and if anything without certain factors like exercise and limitations orange juice becomes unhealthy and even harmful. For example, it has been proven that the excess consumption of orange juice can result in the significant erosion of teeth. According to Dr. Yan-Fang Ren, of the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, the acid in orange juice "is so strong that the tooth is literally washed away." The acid found in orange juice is similar to the acid found in soda and other acidic fruits, this acid weakens the enamel and eventually, the teeth begin to erode.
