Sadly, due to routine ante-natal scanning and the increased availability of abortions, together with recent advances in medical science and plastic surgery techniques, potential exhibits for human curiosity displays are becoming very scarce these days and, as a consequence, good old traditional freak shows are now few and far between.

Nevertheless, various interfering busybodies claiming to represent the interests of cripples, spastics, invalids and other people with physical abnormalities have sought to deny the public the pleasure of gawping at deformed people by lobbying to have the last remaining freak shows banned on the basis that they contravene civil and human rights legislation. Of course, these malicious and spiteful calls for the abolition of freak shows ignore the fact that these exhibitions are a rare and welcome diversion from the trials and tribulations of daily life in these dark days of economic austerity.

Furthermore, freak shows provide valuable employment opportunities for deviants and mutants who might otherwise find it difficult to find a job and, in addition to this, the physically handicapped people in freak shows are often their keepers' only source of income.

That's why I affirm that our much-loved, traditional freak shows should be preserved.

Thank you.

I will show that "freak shows," as my opponent has put it, are detrimental not only to the self-esteem of the persons involved but to the social awareness of the viewers.

I will also prove that "freak shows" are in mass media today in a more diluted form, and therefore it is not necessary to revive the more socially unacceptable versions.

There was a debate about the freak show
Pro said it should stay and Con said it should go
But it wasn't really worth it
Because Con's round was forfeit
Therefore I urge all members to please vote Pro

I thank you.

Well, a terrible destination for what appeared to be another humorous debate......

Is freak show even the best thing to call hem? The way this is worded it seems sarcastic.

Reasons for voting decision: Well......The debate had a great promise: the preservation of "our much loved, traditional freak shows" as a sense of release from the darkness of daily life......Interesting arguments, whether of rights, person-hood, individuality and so forth, could have been raised by Con but unfortunately--and for some reason--did not appear due to his forfeits. Obvious win is obvious.:)
