The influence of video games can be educational but only on the means of Parents controlling the amount of time the child is playing. Some studies have said that we should only allow 40-45min intervals between playing video games and then allowing our child to be off of screen time.

I believe that the time a child spends playing video games is something that does not need parental regulation. A lot of video games require a certain amount of time to complete a session (ex. CS:GO which requires 1 1/2 hours for a match) and a parental time limit would prevent a child from playing said games.

As for parents observing what video games their children play, I feel as though it should be the child's choice of what they play and should only be an issue if it actually becomes an issue. Parents (mine at least) tend to have a distorted perception of what a game is about. Also, over-regulation can lead to rebellious and argumentative behavior.
