Kids should be able to plan for themselves. Too many parents restrict their kids on when they can play and when they should study/go to school etc... I will definitely post more if I get an opponent.

A parent's job is to structure they're children, and teach them how to be self sufficient. A child doesn't usually want to clean his room, but his mother enforces clean up time. When this child is an adult, he will have an innate sense of wanting to be in a clean environment, and it will be important to him to get his house work done before he goes out. A big lesson in life parents teach they're children is we don't always WANT to do what we NEED to do, but it must get done all the same. Procrastination is not a good quality to instill.

Setting up a schedule for school age kids to do they're homework is a good idea. Obviously, if your parents have to force you to do your homework you otherwise aren't doing it on your own accord. Homework in my home was the first thing you did when you got home from school. That way you have the rest of the evening to relax and do what you wished.

Having a responsible adult is the finished product that parents should want. Reliability and dependability are also import features in a successful person. Parents should indeed make it they're initiative to have they're children (of whatever age) finish they're chores before play time. In the real world of adulthood, that's what one must do.
