"The gift of life" is giving people life through giving blood but, many cant do this because they are to young. Let there be a weight restriction not age
pcmbrown

Con

Young children are incapable of giving informed medical consent. As this resolution would allow obese 5 year-olds to donate, it is contrary to medical law. Conversely, it would ban those capable of giving said consent from donating, if they were underweight, reducing supply.

If a fat 5 year old has enough blood then we should allow them to donate. we are allowing skinny people to donate now and drawing than much blood from them is not healthy to their body.

Con

A 5 year-old should not be able to donate simply because they cannot give medical consent. This would be the same as permitting 5 year-olds to consent to surgery. It is a simple fact that young children can give nothing close to informed consent. Skinny persons can, however, give medical consent, and therefore, should be permitted to donate once given adequate information.

Thank you.

There already is a weight limit...Red Cross won't let you donate if you're under 110 pounds:

http://www.redcross.org...

and the age limit is designed to 1) Fit with accordance of state laws and 2) Make sure your body is mature enough to actually donate blood (i.e. be able to make it back).

Basically, you're already medically limited, so there's no real reason for this weight restriction.
