After reviewing some debates, one person seems to always presented the best information, the most facts/figures, and proper grammar while the other person was the opposite. When the voting comes in, the person with the more "popular" viewpoint tends to win. My argument is that the question is "Who won the debate" not "Which side of the issue do you agree with". Is winning a debate more than saying what is popular? I am getting the feeling that on this site, the popular view points will almost always "win the debate" rather than the side with the "better debate".

It is true that many people vote on what they believe rather than on who made the better debate. But, is that necessary? I mean, this is a debating site. Not a polling one. We are here to debate, not to argue which point is more popular or to just vote on our beliefs. The whole point of this website is to debate and practice our debating skills, again not just to express our opinions through voting. Although, we do have the ability to debate our beliefs, voting our After reviewing some debates, one person seems to always presented the best information, the most facts/figures, and proper grammar while the other person was the opposite. It appears you have copied and pasted the majority of what I said. I am not sure if it is a debating strategy to copy exactly what the other person has said but I will agree with the comments of mine that you posted?!

No I did not copy and paste a single thing.

My opponent has failed to make a valid or any argument, so I will restate my opinion. I am against people voting just due to just their opinions. This is because, this is a debating site where people debate. You should vote according to who made the better debate and arguments. If you notice, in the voting round, the question is asking "Who won this debate?" It does not state, "Which side do you agree with?"

I voted pro on this without reading it, just to make a point :)

Nonsense. I managed to convince the majority of people to abolish the Estate Tax and Minimum Wage. Neither of these are popular opinions.

@bigdog

I think most of us here have some sort of psychological inclination towards debate. There's just something about it that appeals to a wide variety of people.

Whether you're an insecure and meek person who enjoys expressing yourself through the veil of the internet...

Or an intellectual who gets sick of masquerading as a moron to maintain a circle of friends...

Or an "out of the box" thinker who doesn't have any other outlets for the thoughts bubbling in your head...

Theblondeguy - I was actually referring to a few that I voted on earlier before engaging in my first debate but I do agree with you on the fact that was a similar case of my point. I am not sure why he thought that the minimum wage should be increased because some people don't have diplomas and really don't like their jobs.

I am here for the sake of debating, all my friends get sick of me doing it, so I figured I would meet up with some others like me. I could care less about my own win/loss record simply because my viewpoints are consistent and constant whether people think of me as a cold-hearted SOB or not, I think logically and rationally with my brain, not my heart. I look at how things do work, not the way I wished they would work.

In order to have winners in the game of life, you also have to have losers. By losers, I don't mean geeks and dorks, I mean the people that always are looking for assistance from others rather then themselves.

First thing I'm going to do when forums come out, is to create a "Frustration" topic where we can all vent on debates we think were voted unfairly on.

bigdog, I think you are referring to your debate with that highschool dropout idiot. I don't think you should let that bother you. I've lost debates in which my opponent made ridiculous points. You shouldn't let that bother you to incite a debate on it because you just added one more loss to your record now.

It also appears that we're both fully Black and fully Asian. Just like how Jesus was fully God and fully man.

Maybe we're the debate.org messiah!

I think you . . . I mean "I" . . . may be right. I sometimes find myself waking up in places I'm not familiar with. I had always thought it was due to sleep walking, but now that I think about it, this would explain alot.

It's like that creepy Johnny Depth movie. (yikes)

I've done this exact same debate about two weeks after the site started up. It seems it is still a problem. I agree with pro, but will not vote. The debate went off on a tangent, and I don't vote for "maybe's".
