In my opinion permissive parenting is too hands off, especially in the developmental stages of a child's life and rebellious teen years. Children need some form of structure for their life, and when they understand the world and become mature, that's when a parent can be a permissive parent. The type of parent I am for is the authoritative style of parenting. This style involves a stable set of rules but gives exceptions sometimes. This form is able to show the child structure and rules but doesn't make them want to be rebellious since there are exceptions to the rules.

If you are a helicopter parent then your child is missing out on a lot of different opportunities in life. Most of the lessons that kids learn are because of the mistakes that they make, so if you do everything for them then they don't learn anything and expect everything to be given to them. If you cut your kids off from computers and TV they will not know what its like to have to do stuff on their own with no help, and they will not have any knowledge on what is going on.

Authoritative parents don't completely disconnect their children from technology but instead, limit their kids time to show time management and responsibility. Parentingscience. com published an article on the pros and cons of all different types of parenting styles. This article writes that the authoritative parenting style is most common in the middle class families; including data from all races to rule out a bias. The authors say that this parenting style is also linked with the most successful child outcome. The kids are more likely to become independent, self-reliant, academically successful and well behaved. What happens to the children raised by hands off parents that don't learn from their mistakes and continue to fail and stumble down the wrong path their entire life?

The children of the parents that cut their kids off from everything will not be able to do things on their own because they will expect everything to be handed to them because that is how it was before. The kids are not taught that the more effort they put in the better the outcome will be because they did nothing and still got the best result. In school kids are not taught about what is going on with politics so they have to learn it on their own. By taking away their phones and computers they are taking away a chance to learn what is going on.
