Time is against us. Ever since our species evolved and learned of this world, what it can do and what happens around it. We've learned that time doesn't favour us here. So why is it that the leading politicians of the world base there politics on staying here. In one billion years the sun will have expanded so much that earth will have lost its atmosphere. That along with comets, super volcano's and the like, why is all our fish in the one net? I heard last year off a grant to which the U.S government will grant a University 10million dollars if they can come up with a plan to send a space ship in 100 years to the closest habitable planet with humans. One plan in 100 years time. It's hardly enough to ensure our survival. The universe created us it is apart of us. Did we stay in Kenya? Did we not travel around the world and currently live on all its land masses, to one extent or another? So why then stop at the moon? True we currently don't have the technology to really leave here on mass. And the most problematic problem for the team that wins the grant will be to some how ensure the space ship isn't breached. Flying through space at 10,000's miles an hour and a small rock could destroy you never mind any big ones. I don't believe in present politics I believe in the future. This planet won't be destroyed by us, it has been through far worst than us. And when its end comes it won't be by us so why bet on it? Politicians in my country our fighting over a small piece of land to which truly only means something to them. They don't see that in 200 million years from now that the earths land mass will be in the South Pacific. Pangaea 2 if you will. This is why we need our people's in togetherness, to truly survive we need to be one for we will become one. One way or another. I call for the uniting of all governments, however that each country still has its own local policies within it. World matters will be dealt with by this elected parliament to which a 2 3rd vote passes. All world matters will be voted on every 5 years in which a new set of representatives are appointed. The UN doesn't do enough for our future or even the planet and should be dissolved. Settling down isn't what we evolved to do, we evolved to explore and we can only achieve this together with one voice. Not a single U.S. lead team. Why wait for tomorrow when it can happen today? Remember its happening right now somewhere else. MY overwhelming question to you is, would you vote for this future if it where to be put to the ballet box?

I accept. To begin, let's look at my opponent's argument.

In one billion years the sun will have expanded so much that earth will have lost its atmosphere.

One Billion years is a long time. Human's have only been around (with high estimates) only 0.01% to (with low estimates) only 0.001% of that time.

In 10,000 years, Human's have advanced our technology into space. In less than a decade, we are sending a manned mission to Mars(1) and will likely be fully able to leave the Earth in the next century with rate of technological growth.

At most, by the year 10,000 AD (8,000 years from now), we will be able to live in floating Space Colonies, and have have colonies on other planets, if not fully live on them.

That along with comets, super volcano's and the like, why is all our fish in the one net?

According to Science, it's been over 65 million years since Earth was last hit by an extinction-level Asteroid. It took 200+ million years for this to happen after the Dinosaurs came into creation. It likely took far over that number of years since the last extinction-level Asteroid.

Scientists believe a large asteroid (large enough to hurt us but not wipe us out) likely only hits every 100 million years.(2) With so many Asteroid research centers, we kow of nearly any object that might crash into Earth, and have defense systems prepared.

Super Volcanoes are even less likely to explode.

The odds of us being wiped out in the next 100 years is around 1 to 5000.(3) This doesn't take into account of what percent of the one's that do making it passed our defenses by that time.

Human's have existed from 10,000 to 100,000 years... The claim that human's can't possibly survive living 100 years before extinction is unwarranted.

So why then stop at the moon?

The reasons we made it to the Moon the first time was simple... Cold War.

Some jumps are larger than others. Jumping to the Moon was bound to be entire decadesaway from jumping to Mars.
Jumping to the moon was a large jump.
Jumping to Mar is many many times larger of a jump.
Colonizing is a massive jump beyound our imaginations.

We are a decade away for visiting Mars, and with technological advancement, we will likely colonize the moon in around a century.

I don't believe in present politics I believe in the future.

You won't make it to the future like that.
The future is just that... The future. You won't make it there if you are destroyed in the present because you had only long-term plans. We have millions of years to get into space.

The Human Race isn't likely to be wiped out anytime soon, as it hasn't in the past 100,000 years.

You can't just go to the future. The senate can't vote "Go to the future" and we appear in the future... We can't just go to the future, we must build the future, and that starts with the present. Present politics is what's keeping us around long enough to enter the future. Present politics is building the way to the future.

The Pro has said the following:
"I heard last year off a grant to which the U.S government will grant a University 10million dollars if they can come up with a plan to send a space ship in 100 years to the closest habitable planet with humans."

That's called focusing on the future. The Pro is very selective of how he views the evidence.

We don't have to focus dramastically on the future. The US would be in bad shape if we stopped focusing on everything and only focused on something centuries away.

Believe or not, but whatever land they are focusing on is probably more important than you think.

200 million years is a long time from now. In only 10,000 year of civilized civilization, Humans have went to the Moon, and is a decade from visiting Mars. It's not likely it'll take us that same time to colonize space. Earth will likely be only one page (if that) in the Text Book by then.

This is a gross exaggerating of the threat to human existance.

I call for the uniting of all governments, however that each country still has its own local policies within it.

That's called the United Nations. It's effective at maintaining the current field of politics, which is our main concern. We must keep the Present in order.

The Pro talks about the odds of surviving 100 years. We know nothing natural is likely to wipe us out by that time. The only time that will wipe us out by than is ourselves if we ignore issues of today.

Ignoring today is the only thing that will likely ever wipe us out before thenext 100 The UN doesn't do enough for our future or even the planet and should be dissolved.

The UN doesn't do enough for our future or even the planet and should be dissolved.

That'd be a terrible idea.

The Pro understands nothing of how politics works. The UN keeps relatively great peace between nations who would otherwise be at war. They are responsible for half of the reforestation efforts(4) and many other programs that make Earth better.

The Pro thinks that by focusing on today, we aren't making a way to tomorrow.

Dissolve the UN, stop focusing on the present day issues, and we will be wiped out in 100 years.

[4] http://www.un.org...

Why wait for tomorrow when it can happen today?

We can't do that. The future doesn't work that way. The future can't happen today or it would have. The future can ONLY happen if we put enough effort in surviving the Present and making a way to the Future.

=======================================

The Pro has only made ungodly large exagerations, proposed dangerous and reckless ideas that would leae the human race in steep decline.

All and all, No. We wouldn't vote for that proposal. If we ignore the Present, there is no future.
