Over decades of time there has been great debates as to whether planning for the future is a waste of time since too much of our future is beyond our control. Only an imbecile would disagree with this statement.
Planning is the process of thinking about and organizing the activities required to achieve a desired goal. Don't you think that your precious time can be spent doing something else rather than planning for the future. Planning for one's future requires patience, time and all together one's energy. We do not know what will happen in the next couple of seconds, minutes, hours, days, even so the next couple of years. The simple thought of sitting down to plan one's future prove some kind of insanity. Too much of our future is beyond our control, in order to plan one's future he/she needs to plan one step and prepare a plan B, a plan C, its even possible to take it to plan Z. Too much energy needs to be exerted to plan one's future which can be seen to be useless in this ever changing society.

Planning for the future is not a waste of time. It can be very important.
Think about animals. Squirrels hoard acorns in the warm seasons so that they have food in the cold seasons when there are few or no acorns. When squirrels hoard acorns, they are planning and preparing for the future. If they didn't do this, they wouldn't have food in the winter. Another example is NORAD and the EAS. NORAD is a nuclear fallout shelter. In case of a nuclear apocalypse, thousands of people can live there in safety. The EAS is a system that alerts as many American citizens as possible of an emergency by interrupting television and radio broadcasts. This is the system that you hear on TV that makes annoying sounds and tells you about emergencies, such as a tornado or a severe blizzard. It's true that we don't know if or when an emergency (like a nuclear fallout) will occur, but if we don't plan for such emergencies, the damage can be much worse. Let's say there is a nuclear war (which scientists predict may happen in the next 40 years). Without any planning and preparation, like the EAS or NORAD, American citizens wouldn't know about this emergency and millions of people would die. Planning or not, millions of people will die anyway. But with planning, you can also save millions of American lives. Now think about kids. Kids and their parents have to plan for their future, because they need a plan for when the kid goes to college and they retire. They need to have a plan about where to get the money, what college, where to move to, etc.
The future may be unpredictable, but planning for it is not a waste of time. By planning, we can prepare for the future so that the future is somewhat under our control.

My opponent stated that planning for the future is not a waste of time and that it can be a very important decision to make since. He claims that SQUIRRELS store food for later use and that early warning systems need to be put in place to deal with natural disasters. The point my quite unconscious opponent fails to understand is that in order to plan for one's future they must exert but time and energy.
It is clear that to have a definite plan for the future is a great motivating factor for people to work harder and achieve their goals. But in many instances planning for the future, is not very sensible and many unforeseen events in life can turn things against one's plan. For instance, people often plan for their future and make huge investments in terms of money and other resources. It is likely that many of these plans do not work according to people's designs and as a result, they feel distressed.

Nonetheless, I am inclined to favour the idea that planning for the future is a waste of time since too much of our future is beyond our control. Although planning for the future can motivate people, failure to realise one's dream can seriously affect their morale.

My humblest apologies to the entire public. My opponent clearly does not have what it takes to debate and clearly cannot present himself and abide with the rules set my this website. I hereby rest my case, since I have no other option because I will surely win if I continue with this debate.

Thank You!

THe voters on this debate are claiming that I used Insultive statements throughout my debate. When debating a person must use strong language and ethics in order to overthrow his opponent. Using insultive statements towards your opponent gives the public the idea and emphasis that you believe in what you are saying and that nobody and I repeat NOBODY! can change your views and opinions.

BTW INSULTIVE STATEMENTS ARE MEANT TO BE IN DEBATES, WITHOUT THEM YOUR DEBATE IS JUST LIKE A BORING RESEARCH REPORT.

The future is unpredictable. You cannot bind the happenings at will no matter how much prepared you are. There is always an unexpected thing would happen and it will happen when you least expected it.

Reasons for voting decision: The con made the best decision for me because planning for the future is a good thing we never know what will happen in the future something like a zombie apoclypse can happen not saying it will or the mayans could b proved right the world can eventually end not saying that would happen either but it is the best thing to do is to plan for the future.
