It is my intention to hopefully begin a series of debates focused around pointless, futile, and unnecessary arguments.

The first of these
Creationism vs Evoltionism

Ding,Ding,Ding!

I assert the following:
That the centuries old argument between Creationism and Evolutionsim is completely pointless
I argue that it is pointless due the the complete lack of direct disagreement.

I have read over genesis many times (everytime ive tried to start reading the bible all the way through and failed...then started over...)

Genesis is vague.

It has always been the christian mindset that god created the heavens and the earth via some unseen and all-powerful magic.
Why???
Who said anything about magic???
Magic is simply a lack of understanding about the world around us. For example, 100 years ago TVs would have been magic. 100 years ago man walking on the moon was a funny dream someone had the previous night before. 1000 years ago a gun would have looked like magic. Medicine was considered witchcraft!

Now I believe that God created the heavens and earth, but my point is this, maybe the "magic" God used was well within the bounds of science. Maybe we just dont understand it!

Scientists have provided multiple scientific explainations as to the creation of the earth...maybe they are right!!
Maybe God did it that way!!!

In fact if you read genesis...god creates mankind before he creates Adam and Eve!
Chapter 1: God created mankind
Chapter 2: God creates Adam and Eve

Maybe god evolved humankind first??? Then created Adam and Eve, the first two humans with concience and spirit. Just a theory but a point none the less. This is just an example of how Genesis's vague description of the the creation can be used to meet with science peacefully.

All genesis says is this:
God said let there be _____
And there was ____
God said let there be _____
And there was ____

It says nothing about how exactly he did it?
Maybe...Just Maybe...He did it with science. Maybe...Just Maybe...there is no magic about it!

Certainly the man who created ALL of the Universe, understands every aspect of its science! Maybe his "magic" is just our lack of knowledge!

Maybe...there is no disagreement at all!

I Look forward too a great debate!

My opponents argument is as follows.

Creationism vs evolutionism is a pointless useless argument that is un important.

Well I would like to argue that it is not a pointless useless argument because people don't usually think it is. What matters to man matters. If that doesn't matter then neither does the idea of god or of religion at all. If that doesn't matter than the fact you say it doesn't matter doesn't in itself matter at all. If the argument of creationism doesn't matter htan neither does this argument.

Nowhere did I say that science and Christianity can't co-exist. The problem is that the theory of evolution isn't scientific. Darwin predicted, based on his hypothesis, that we would find countless thousands of transitional fossils between species in the fossil record. The problem is, we haven't. However, instead of considering the hypothesis falsified by the failure of Darwin's prediction, the scientific community formulated a suite of new theories to explain the lack of evidence, i.e. punctuated equilibrium, quantum evolution, saltationism, catastrophism. That's not science, it's religion. Scientists believe so strongly in evolution that the lack of evidence only spurs them to greater feats of fabrication.

The person below me is wrong. He's revolving on the possibility. Science and Christianity can very easily co-exist if you don't take the bible so literally. Like Pro said, the bible is vague. And I am doubtful that everything on the creation of the world happened exactly as written. If you look at it with a mixed view, it makes a lot of sense.

Your whole argument, Pro, revolves around the premise that there is no disagreement between Genesis and the theory of Evolution. I have no idea how you can say this with a straight face. Evolution presupposes a purposeless universe and completely random origins for the first living cell. Obviously the Bible leaves no room for such a presupposition. According to the Bible the universe was purposefully created, and life was the result of intelligent intervention. Evolution says that life came from the random interaction of chemicals in a primordial soup. There's your direct contradiction.

Since I have demonstrated that the argument is not pointless, let me close by saying that it is fairly easy to demonstrate that evolution is mathematically untenable.

OK... I thought you were making an obscure reference to Bergson's "Creative Evolution."

I agree with you on the Bush thing, however: http://en.wikipedia.org...

@ brittwaller: I was making the point that you look stupid when the conventions in your argument are messed up. You lose credibility. I mean, come on, evolutionism? That's the kind of thing President G.W. Bush would say, which is why his approval rating is almost as bad as advidiun's win ratio. (no offence)

Actually I found Con's argument very interesting. It has the capability to win this debate methinks, if used well.
