These days it seems like everyone is offended by one thing or another. While no one is denying the unfortunate ubiquity of racism and bigotry, our society is becoming increasingly hyper-sensitive to anything that could be perceived as mildly offensive . It seems as if whenever people don't agree with what someone is saying, they want to ban it outright. If we are quick to stifle those with dissenting and even unpopular opinions, our society will suffer. People are becoming afraid to voice their opinions for fear of reprisal, and that is the last thing we need. Let me be clear, I am adamantly against purposely insensitive sentiments, but taking away one's right of free speech is MUCH more dangerous.

I believe the OP to be overstating his case here.Of course there are going to be things that people are going to be offended at hearing. To think that the optimal world is that no-one gets offended by anything is a little far-fetched. The counter-factual makes no sense. So the OP defeats itself in its very first sentence.

No-one is banning free speech here. Everyone is allowed to be racist as much as they want but at the same time they should also respect those who speak vehemently against them. Again, the OP is exaggerating what is happening: that certain opinions are going to attract a lot of opposing views. To equate other people also exercising their right to free speech as 'banning outright' is failing to recognize what is happening. Again, the OP defeats itself by not accurately describing the real world.

but taking away one's right of free speech is MUCH more dangerous.

For the OP to continue to have a case it must demonstrate where anyone's right to free speech is being taken away. If it cannot, then it must be withdrawn as being unsupported.
