Con

I thank my opponent for starting this thought-provoking debate.

Usually, favorite foods are a highly subjective topic, one that falls on personal preference for each person.

In this case though, the key term is Superior

Superior is defined as: Of high standard or quality. [1]

[1] http://www.oxforddictionaries.com...

I will be arguing that Moringa has a higher nutritional quality than Pomegranates, if I can accomplish that, then I will have successfully presented a food which is more superior than pomegranates.

I. What is Moringa?

Moringa, known officially as Moringa Oleifera, is a perennial (meaning it grows year-round) green-leafed tree which provides nutritious moringa leaves and seed pods:

Moringa is native to parts of Africa and Asia, and grows extremely well in sub-tropical and tropical climates. Recently, it's been taking over America due to the growing awareness of the nutritional benefits this plant offers when consumed. [2]

There are several ways to consume moringa including raw right off the tree, sun-dried, dehydrated, or in powder form. It makes an excellent topping for salads, tomato sauces, and any kind of meal where a green plant would be used as a balance or compliment.

Another interesting fact about Moringa is that it's an excellent foundational tree for gardeners working with soil that is dry or void of nutrition. The moringa tree itself is very rich in Nitrogen which when released into the surrounding soil helps enrich the soil for other plants.

Now that I've introduced the food itself, I'll begin showing the nutritional value and my reasoning as to why it's superior to pomegranates.

II. Superior Nutritional value

Since my opponent failed to give any real information on pomegranates, I'll do so in order to create a comparative method for outlining the difference between the two.

Health benefits of Pomegranate [3]
  • The fruit is moderate in calories; 100 g provides 83 calories, slightly more than that in apples.

  • The fruit is suggested by nutritionists in the diet for weight reduction and cholesterol controlling programs.

  • The fruit is also good source of antioxidant vitamin-C, provides about 17% per 100 g of daily requirement.

  • Further, it is an also good source of many vital B-complex groups of vitamins such as pantothenic acid (vitamin B-5), folates, pyridoxine and vitamin K, and minerals like calcium, copper, potassium, and manganese.

Health benefits of Moringa [4] [5] [6]

Moringa is considered a super food, one ounce of it contains:
  • 4x more Vitamin A than found in Carrots
  • 15x more Potassium than found in Bananas
  • 7x more Vitamin C than found in Oranges
  • 17x the Calcium in a glass of Milk
  • 25x more Iron than Spinach
  • Full amount of Complex daily B vitamin
  • Complete source of Protein, with 4x more than found in eggs
More impressive is the effects if eaten daily, as it helps fight:
  • Diabetes and High Blood Pressure
  • Hypertension and Arthritis
  • Kidney Disease and Skin Disorders
  • Bronchitis and Ulcers
  • Heart Disease and Stroke
  • Obesity and Malnutrition
  • Chronic Fatigue
Furthermore, in lab tests Moringa:
  • Increased milk production in Mothers
  • Lowers blood sugar
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • and is proven safe for consumption by all ages

[6] http://www.moringa.com.my...

As you can see, Moringa is an incredibly beneficial food to include in one's diet. Not only does it have a greater nutritional value than pomegranates ounce for ounce, but it also has medicinal applications that have served to benefit countless mothers [7] in poverty-stricken locations around Africa when given as pre-natal vitamins when in powdered form.

In closing,

I have shown Moringa to be the superior food. Pomegranates, while healthy, are nowhere near as superior as Moringa in regards to ease of growth, rich sustenance, and practical applications in medicinal uses.

Pro has done nothing to show that Pomegranates are superior to Moringa, I therefore rest my case.

I thank you for your time, and urge a vote for Con.

Reasons for voting decision: BoT was able to show that Pomegranates are not the superior food, using suitable, relevant, well-sourced arguments, and not simple opinions.
