In this debate I posit two social points.

a. That while poverty is related to many other social problems, it is not a cause in an of itself, but a truncated branch of larger systemic problems.

b. That poverty is largely socially constructed, and at least among the wealthier nations, largely a false paradigm.

The PRO has a problem with correlation and causation. Yes, there is a correlation between poverty and greater problems, however, the greater problems do not cause this poverty. Also, err CON because the topic doesn't specify what the 'greater problem' is - i will do my best to defend against all.
1. Ideology
Poverty does not come from Ideology - Ideology comes from poverty. People who grow poor want a new way of thinking to stop being poor. If the society is capitalist and they are falling into poverty they will change to an ideology of socialist. This way they receive more money, and a better position in society. This is the way Hitler rose to power.
2. Terrorism
Poverty does not come from Terrorism - Terrorism comes from poverty. People who grow poor want ways to help themselves. Terrorist organization can promise rations, shelter, and a common goal - 'fix' the government. This inclines people to join these organizations, be exposed to these idea, and be recruited as a new phase of terrorists.
3. International Problems
Poverty does not come from International Problems - It is much more likely Poverty causes international problems. This is obvious: The Great Depression started in America and caused problems around the world.
4. Economic Decline
This is a fact and should not be debated. If PRO says poverty comes from economic decline - it is essentially saying poverty comes from people going into poverty. The 'greater problem' should be a problem unrelated to the economy that has possible negative effects on the economy to provide the most amount of fairness to both teams and educate us on the true societal problems.
