Con

For many convicts, the first weeks are the hardest: self harm and suicide are most common at the beginning of a spell inside, therefore convicts should have privileges from the start
asanderson

Pro

Prisoners are in jail for a reason, they are there to be punished for their crimes so they shouldn't have privileges until they have earned them for good behavior. They should have that kind of incentive to be good instead of already having those privilege
Debate Round No. 1
LTorbay

Con

People who are in prison already are being punished by the lack of freedom. They are not in prison ONLY to be punished but also to become better people. Forcing them to go through a few weeks without these "privileges" will only hurt them more and drain them from their will to become better people
asanderson

Pro

The only way for them to become better people is to prove it through good behavior, why should they have these privilege for committing a crime. They shouldn't just avoid bad behavior they should through hard work that they are becoming better people
