Private Space Exploration is preferable to public space exploration for 3 reasons(contentions)

Contention 1: Gov't Is wasting money
Contention 2: Competition Leads to innovation
Contention 3: The space program can be better managed by Private Sectors

Con

Wow 1 hour between rounds. I sense a lot of forfeiting.

Anyway

Refutations:

Govt Wasting Money

--> No impact argued, who cares?

--> No warrant or evidence

--> TURN: The Government has access to massive financial resources that the private sector never will.

--> TURN: Private sector has no interest in science, just profit. Private sector "exloration" would likely be closer to disneyland for the wealthy than actual exploration.

--> No trade off argument, unless he can show that the Government leaving the space industry would lead to the money being spent elsewhere WISELY he's gaining no advantage.

Competition leads to innovation

--> Granted, but why presume that there is no competition in the public sector? Essentially all significant space exploration happened during the Cold War when the USSR and USA were competing.

--> TURN: Innovation is less likely in the private sector because the sole motivation in the private sector is profit.

--> Less inovation wwould occur because the private sector has very limited resources in comparison to the government.

--> Unless he can show that private sector exploration would be beneficial to the Human race like Public sector has, he's gaining no advantage.

Space program better managed by Private Sector

--> Why?

--> No impact, advantage, warrant, or evidence.

My Argument:

Due to previous experiences with sharing arguments on this site (http://www.debate.org...) I don't want to post a high quality argument. Soo:

C1. The Public Sector has access to massive financial resources that the Private sector could not obtain.

Consider the following: NASA's budget for fiscal year 2011 is 18.724 Billion[1]. This is only a tiny tiny TINY fraction of the resources the federal government can distribute, and that's only the United States. The net-worth of Bill Gates (wealthiest man in the world) is 59 Billion dollars. He could fund NASA for barely three years before his entire finances become drained.

Not a bad case. Pretty good for a newbie going Con based on commodification of the human body.

The "newness" shows though when you look at the formatting, no bold headings etc. My first one was similar. I debated Brian but NOT on a joke debate.

I don't want to debate a newbie. Haven't done so in a while and I don't want to change it now.

Sure I will once I've researched it more...my "arguments" for this were just made up.

But if you want to debate that specific resolution, there are definitely going to be more people posting this resolution so if you're quick enough you'll get one

You said a month ago that you wanted to do a Space topic. Let's do a slightly different one. Something that is not a resolution for a real life policy or LD debate. You up for that?

ehhh I had a bad experience with posting arguments for real debate resolutions on here (http://www.debate.org...) So I'm not sure...
