I propose that prostitution should be legal, and that prosecution of persons engaged in prostitution represents an unjust infringement on the rights of the participants. The question should not framed whether prostitution should be illegal, but whether participants should be subject to arrest for engaging in it. It is a principle in law that a statute should not be interpreted to punish the class of persons that the statute was drafted to protect. So I ask you, who are prostitution laws designed to protect, and what additional harm does prostitution pose that is not already posed by non-commercial sexual relationships.

I define prostitution as such, taken from the NJ penal code: "Prostitution is sexual activity with another person in exchange for something of economic value, or the offer or acceptance of an offer to engage in sexual activity in exchange for something of economic value." 2C:34-1a.(1)

Prostitution laws are designed to protect the victim from abuse and to protect them from themselves and get them help. We should keep arresting these prostitutes because these john do not hesitate to take advantage of them, pimp hem out, or manipulate with drugs.

Arresting prostitutes is something we can do to lower the possibility of rape.

"Yes. When a woman says “no,” it means no – it doesn’t matter if she is a prostituted woman or not. Even if she agrees to do one sexual act, if the john forces her to do a different sexual act against her will, that is still rape. Prostituted women are much more likely to be raped than non-prostituted women. One out of every six American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime.* In comparison, about 80% of women in prostitution have been the victim of a rape. Prostituted women are raped, on the average, eight to ten times per year.**

Guess how many prostitutes die year?

204 for every 100,000( over 20x the natinal average and that just in america)---http://sex-crimes.laws.com...

By making these prostitution arrests the state can help them with drug addiction and can better their lives and possibly prevent them from catching diseases, neglecting their kids, supporting crime, ultimately death.
